1/3000 does allow a grand perspective on the seascape/battlefield!

Card ships slipped down the stack again but the 1/3000 project allows fast results. Maybe with 2mm figures ?

Not a word about how you did that… Is that all handmade clay work?

I can't wait to see how it looks painted.

If you decide to cast it in resin, I'll take one. :-)

Ty. It is made from high-density styrene used for architects models. I have thought about casting some in resin but such a flat thin piece is problematic. Maybe a set of hex-shaped tiles which will build a variety of ports?

That sounds even better. :-)

Great idea, and the prototype looks very neat. Too neat, maybe? Were Greek cities all that well laid out, with broad avenues at right angles? Athens old town around the Acropolis looks rather less tidy today at least…

Plasticviking328 Nov 2015 3:52 p.m. PST

Greek city planning started at Miletus after a certain Hippodamus who was mad about regular lines-(a looney Pythagorean) – but the hex tiles have to be systematised to allow them to fit together in different ways. Yes it looks regular. The boulevards are so that Irregular 2mm strips can march down them and eliminate the communoikoi in the poor quarters.

Suggestion: make some "fringe" pieces that are irregular (not hex-shaped) on the outer edges, so that a city outline can be a more city-like irregular sprawling blob shape (like the harbor pieces, but for inland wall or suburb sections). Such pieces could be more than one hex wide.
