Any of you guys every deal with this company in the UK? Looks promising, but I have never heard of them. Quality of product and reputation? |
MajorB | 28 Oct 2015 7:40 a.m. PST |
Nope, never heard of them before. From a cursory study of their web site: combatzone-scenery.co.uk - they appear to be in breach of the Distance Selling Regulations 2000, so on principle I would not touch them with the proverbial barge pole! |

"they appear to be in breach of the Distance Selling Regulations 2000" For the unaware, in what way? |
billclo | 28 Oct 2015 8:20 a.m. PST |
Okay, since most of us are US based and are likely not intimately familiar with the UK regulations, what are the apparent problems with them? |
MajorB | 28 Oct 2015 8:28 a.m. PST |
Okay, since most of us are US based I'm not sure if that demographic is actually true, but for your information, under the Distance Selling Regulations 2000, companies trading online are required to provide an actual postal address and/or a telephone number. link |

Followed their progress and pitched in on their second Kickstarter: link Evrything was present and correct. High quality resin product. |

Major, okay, thanks. I see that those regulations were replaced by a new set of regulations (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). What do those regulations say? Nonetheless, I would be a bit leery of dealing with any company that didn't have at least a working phone number. At worst, I can file a Paypal claim with some chance of a positive resolution, but more "transparency" is always a good thing. I was able to find some information via a WHOIS search, but I can't verify any of it, unfortunately. I asked them to put such information on their website, so we'll see how they respond. I'll hold off on buying or recommending their products for now then. :) |

I see that those regulations were merged into a new set of regulations (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013).What do those regulations say? Schedule 2 includes the requirement for a geographical address and (where available) phone number link In other words just the same as DSR 2000. |

They might be great, but buyers should ask themselves why a company wants to hide it's whereabouts. It might just be an oversight of course. martin

Certainly more users of this forum live outside the US than within it although US users represent the largest minority block. It depends, I guess, on your definition of 'most' and (more importantly) 'us' John T |

Okay I run a small resin casting business as well as a decal manufacturing business. I do not have my address on anything, other than if you order from me there's a return address on the package, I'm in Canada. Am I hiding something? I don't think I need to put my address on the internet for the world to see. |

I do not have my address on anything, other than if you order from me there's a return address on the package, I'm in Canada. Am I hiding something? You're in Canada, not the UK. Therefore the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 do not apply to you (unless there are similar laws/regulations applicable in Canada …) |

Looked at combatzone-scenery.co.uk and there is indeed a postal address and phone number, in the about us section. |

Looked at combatzone-scenery.co.uk and there is indeed a postal address and phone number, in the about us section. Interesting. That definitely wasn't there earlier today … And it certainly wasn't there in June 2015: link |

I've had email conversations with them and whole heartedly backed their Kickstarter. I would and do trust them they come across as being really nice guys. I have bought stuff privately from one of them and not only was it superb scenery but he is very good with communication. I would defiantly recommend them, I intend to do more business with them in the future. Hope that helps Cheers John |

Spent a lot of money with them recently on their last Kickstarter and it was a great stress free transaction, I would be happy to buy from them again and would recommend them . |
billclo | 28 Oct 2015 5:18 p.m. PST |
Okay, they didn't respond to my contact per se, but they added a street address, which matches their WHOIS information, so that's helpful. :) |
martin goddard | 29 Oct 2015 2:26 a.m. PST |
Darkrazor. No offence intended to your honour but in the UK the law is that you give a proper geographical address. In my opinion it is a good law to protect consumers. I would not be in favour of UK traders ignoring the law because they have personally decided it should not apply to them. It is a problem with many laws that folk do not think it should apply to them. The person that suffers is not usually he one whom has decided not to follow the law. I expect it does not apply in Canada, therefore no foul. Good luck with your business

I was not taking offence just concerned someone might consider me dishonest or not reputable because I did not post an address. |
billclo | 03 Nov 2015 10:35 a.m. PST |
Darkrazor, I don't know if it would be an option where you are, but around here (Pennsylvania, USA), there are several businesses that offer PRIVATE postal mail boxes. Places like Mailboxes, etc. You get a street address that you can have mail sent to, they receive and hold packages for you (greatly reduces the chance of theft), and you can even forward mail. So you get the benefit of a physical address, with some anonymity (helpful in this day and age, when there are plenty of weirdos out there). |
