Have you ever re-painted miniatures that you painted a long time ago (presumably to make them look better the second time around)? (a) Yes, I have done this for an entire army. (b) Yes, but only for a few select figures. (c) No, but I've considered it. (d) No, never. I'd rather just leave them the way they are. (d) No, never. I'd rather purchase more, and paint those better. |

Yes, I'm doing it with my GW Chaos warriors and knights now. I have rarely done it before. I thought about doing it with my Old Glory Greeks but decided I liked other figures better enough that I just gave the whole army away. |

D. My AWI army has a ton of stuff I painted back in the 80s. They have fought bravely for me, both sides, in the past. Why would I insult them by repainting them? Why should I waste time repainting perfectly serviceable minis? Time is short. The time wasted in stripping and/or repainting takes away from the time adding new units. I always need more new units. |

B), however I am considering a repaint of a 15mm Essex DBA medieval army. I bought the figures back in '94 or '95, and are somewhat damaged. I intend to replace bent and broken lances with florist wire and paper banners, and re-mount one of the knights whose horse broke off at the hooves by pinning the horse's body to the base. Why? Because I know I could do a better paint job than I did in '94, I would love to use these figures in DBA again, and they are now the oldest figures in my collection. Time to breathe new life into them. |

b, found out the uniform information was wrong (we didn't have much for sources back in the '60's), so I redid them. |

I don't recall ever repainting any of my own paintjobs. I happily buy armies cheap on Ebay and touch up the paint on those to bring them up. So: E) I repaint other people's miniatures. |

A. I started 28mm AWI armies many years ago. As my painting got better I couldn't stand to look at them. So I reorganised, repainted and rebased several hundred of them. One of the most satisfying projects I've ever done. |

Except for their first time on my workbench, models don't get re-painted. (Not counting repairs.) That first time, though? I've put multiple different layers on when I haven't been satisfied. When I'm considering my fourth base coat, I'm done. |

I'm pretty much in the second D category--or maybe it was intended to be E. Unless it is really out of production, buying a new figure is the easiest approach. I have one figure that was repainted because the Dullcote frosted up, and I had to repaint it. I had to repaint some Varangians because I zapped them with primer instead to the Dullcote (and, yes, I am more careful now). Aside from that, I've touched up a number of paint jobs, but stripping the old paint, and putting new on, never. Grelber |

D. Never repaint, no matter how crappy they look. Since none of my opponents paint, my figs still look better. |

B) I just wasn't happy with the old paint job. A) Army for me was only about a company sized unit (~100), but I did redo some skin tones on an ancients army to bring them more into harmony. Not to make them the same, but to get rid of some occasional cool browns as opposed to both warm and cool browns. F) Sometimes I go back and do touch ups and augmentation of data. |

B German WW2 micro armour. When I started painting (before the internet) the information I was given was Germans are painted Panzer Grey. So I dutifully painted them Panzer Grey: trucks, artillery, halftracks, Pz IVH, Panthers, everything. I finally decided that Panzer Grey Panthers doesn't look right, so I stripped them and am in the process of painting them dunkelgelb. |
