Now for the price!

cloudcaptain27 Oct 2015 2:30 p.m. PST

Cool thanks! Will build the 1/72 equivalents.

Gennorm27 Oct 2015 2:41 p.m. PST

What's the model:actual ratio in TY?

This is Flames of War for 1985 so 1 tank = 1 tank.

Gennorm27 Oct 2015 3:11 p.m. PST

So what does 9 T72s and 2 BMPs represent?

Personal logo Saber6 Supporting Member of TMP Fezian27 Oct 2015 3:17 p.m. PST

A reinforced Tank Company (Forward detachment). Of course have a 1-1 Battalion ready to go in metal is quite satisfying.

Gennorm27 Oct 2015 3:23 p.m. PST

Got a regiment in 6mm.

I'd have thought a full company of 10 tanks plus a platoon of 3 BMPs would have made more sense.

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Oct 2015 3:27 p.m. PST

Agreed that 9 plus 2 seems an odd way to go – possibly they decided to balance the points n the two boxes? The toys look great though, and I'm liking the more general flurry of interest in the period that they've set off too.

VonTed27 Oct 2015 3:30 p.m. PST

Finally

VonTed27 Oct 2015 3:33 p.m. PST

Also …. no infantry for starter sets. God bless them :)

thorr66627 Oct 2015 4:55 p.m. PST

Are these 1:100 scale?

pigasuspig27 Oct 2015 5:31 p.m. PST

Yes, both the tanks and helis are 1/100. So those are some HUGE Hinds.

McWong7327 Oct 2015 6:48 p.m. PST

Can anyone spot the Battlefront facepalm moment in the US box?

And folks assume BF have done their "research"….

LongTimeLurker27 Oct 2015 7:09 p.m. PST

@ McWong73

? share.

McWong7327 Oct 2015 7:17 p.m. PST

In the collection of force cards for the US, they have a "25th Armoured Division" card.
Team Yankee is a combat team from 4th Armoured set in Europe in 1985….25th Armoured is one of the fictional units from Harold Coyle's "Sword Point", set in the Persian Gulf in 1988…

You'd think they would at least get the freaking units from the book right…

Charlie 1227 Oct 2015 7:28 p.m. PST

So Tropic Lightning is now an armored division (according to BF). How quaint…. And, historically, the 4th AD disappeared in 1971 (long before the timeline in Coyle's book) when it was reflagged as the 1st AD. But hey, its in the book so it MUST be true… Yeah, right….

And does somebody want to explain how a M901 is slepping around with a M1A1 unit?

Danny Weitz27 Oct 2015 7:45 p.m. PST

Will we be able to buy the unit cards separately?

nickinsomerset27 Oct 2015 9:17 p.m. PST

Nice looking models for a game! Whilst competitions will have to stick to fictional ORBATS and TO&E it should be easy enough to adapt historical vehicles, ORBATs and TO&E for "social" games and I shall give it a go.

However Soviet MRR Platoon commanders will never be able to spot for Arty, a rule I noted in a write up!

Tally Ho!

pigasuspig27 Oct 2015 9:51 p.m. PST

They aren't crazy. Team Yankee is an Abrams company cross-attached to a mech battalion. The two M901s aren't from a tank unit. TY further swaps a platoon with TB for an infantry component, but of course they aren't in the box.

Also hoping for a unit cards pack :)

McWong7327 Oct 2015 9:55 p.m. PST

I daresay BF will make the unit cards available as pdf downloads. If not, well I've access to a scanner…

CAG 1927 Oct 2015 10:27 p.m. PST

Intersting it says all plastic, but the pod cast says infantry will be metal

Yeah, well, in the 15 years in a NG armor unit, I don't ever recall being cross attached to the Echo company M901s. We were always attached to mech inf; the M901s usually stayed with the mech heavy units to give them an AT asset. At least that's way we did it (but what do I know…)

For me, BFs TOEs go into round file and get replaced by what I know as the actual MTOEs. Except for that annoying T-64 problem (hopefully they're wake up to that…).

Not really – I'm just so delighted that a company has taken up WW3 Cold War Gone Hot and will popularise it and increase the supply of models and opponents for this period!

Of course I'm sure you could do it far better – but in the meantime this will have to do!

Navy Fower Wun Seven27 Oct 2015 11:07 p.m. PST

@ McWong – Good find mate – thanks for posting – is it good gen do you think?

dsfrank27 Oct 2015 11:32 p.m. PST

In my day in '84 -86 my mech bn 5/16 Inf 1st ID – each line company had a section of 2 M901 ITVs in addition to E Co's full Co of ITVs if the Co was cross attached out, the ITV section would go to the inf heavy team

McWong7328 Oct 2015 2:11 a.m. PST

I'm over the teasing, will they just release the damn thing already!

Gennorm28 Oct 2015 3:14 a.m. PST

I bought a load of BF's M113s – excellently done. If thuanis indicative of the way they're going to package this range I'll pass.

CAG 1928 Oct 2015 4:19 a.m. PST

This, according to the podcast, is the core set with all the unit cards etc, you will be able buy standalone boxes (and blisters?) to build up units so no need in TY isn't your thing to have to buy the core set. Would like to se how the M163 and M901 kits are handled compared to the standard 113s

lincolnlog28 Oct 2015 4:31 a.m. PST

In looking at the unit cards the Armored Combat Team has a M106 4.2" mortar platoon. Armor heavy teams didn't generally have mortar platoons, and they definitely would not have been M106 mounted 4.2", they would have been M125 mounted 81mm. Especially before Division 86, each infantry company had a 81mm platoon (3 tubes), and a TOW section mounted on either 2 M150 or 2 M901 ITVs. In the book the team had 2 M901 assigned, probably from the Battalion AT company.

The book represents a Division 86 Infantry Task Force, with Team Yankee being the assigned armor attachment. I know in light infatry formations, the 81mm were removed from the rifle companies and were organize as a platoon in HHC with 6 tubes, with no 4.2" support.

BattlerBritain28 Oct 2015 4:56 a.m. PST

I've got more than enough 6mm figs to do Team Yankee so I'd like to just get the rules and the data cards.

Would that be possible?

Are the rules even out yet?

PzGeneral28 Oct 2015 6:17 a.m. PST

I'm late to the party. Is there a release date?

GeoffQRF28 Oct 2015 6:19 a.m. PST

Cough… we've only been doing it for 19 years…

nickinsomerset28 Oct 2015 9:12 a.m. PST

And very nice they are too, equipping many of my AK47 factions!

Tally Ho!

VonTed28 Oct 2015 11:24 a.m. PST

Shiny pictures and slick advertising goes a long way though :)

Weasel28 Oct 2015 5:45 p.m. PST

What's with putting 2 BMP in the box, instead of 3?

Dentwist Supporting Member of TMP28 Oct 2015 8:22 p.m. PST

they are hoping you will buy 3 boxes

Sorry to do this to you Geoff, as one of your oldest customers, but please read the end of the sentence…

and will popularise it

As much as I love QRF, I don't think its biggest fan could claim its popularised WW2 15mm gaming as much as Battlefront…

as for your sniggering crony, mate, never be afraid to read to the end of a sentence – you can stop moving your lips when you get to the small round dot…

Navy Fower Wun Seven28 Oct 2015 10:28 p.m. PST

Oh me oh myoh…

Bellbottom29 Oct 2015 4:52 a.m. PST

How can they do the either/or option in one box? In each case the optional vehicles are entirely different. So are they going to supply 2 x BMP 1 and 2 x BMP 2 in each box?

Clickenhof29 Oct 2015 4:54 a.m. PST

Here we go…The Andrew start it the pogos have to go in and finish it.

Clickenhof29 Oct 2015 4:56 a.m. PST

The BMP-1 and BMP-2 share the same chassis and have almost identical road performance. The BMP-2 is heavier but also has a more powerful engine to compensate.

The BMP-2 is broadly similar to the BMP-1. The most significant changes are:

A new two-man turret armed with the 2A42 30 mm autocannon and the 9P135M ATGM launcher capable of firing SACLOS guided 9M111 "Fagot" (AT-4 Spigot), 9M113 "Konkurs" (AT-5 Spandrel) and 9M113M "Konkurs-M" (AT-5B Spandrel B) anti-tank missiles.
The commander now sits with the gunner in an enlarged turret.
Seven troops are carried instead of eight.
Two rear infantry roof hatches instead of three.
Slightly improved armour.

A few comparisons, slight camera wobble probably dues to a few nights down the Sticky Platz! (Not me though)

I imagine that portions of the hull tops and turrets will be different while the front sides of the hull, tracks, and lower portions will be common betwen the two versions. If we are lucky, clever use of magnets might let us swap back and forth between versions.

Navy Fower Wun Seven29 Oct 2015 12:39 p.m. PST

So in Nicks overhead of the BMP 1 next to the BMP2s, the rightmost BMP2 has some kind of attachment to the front – mine plough type thing?

Mako1129 Oct 2015 6:52 p.m. PST

"Cough… we've only been doing it for 19 years".

Good one, Geoff!

Yes Bruce, first seen on some rail flats in 86,
