Got a chance to play 2nd Pleven 1877 (Bloody Big Battles Rules), plus some DBA last Saturday at my house in Istanbul with my mate Onur.

You can read it all here with riveting pictures and even film clips!

That's a great AAR and post-battle analysis – and I love the film clips!

Pleven / Plevna is brutal for the Russians, they are bound to die in heaps up against those Turkish defences. Your experience sounds similar to ours – the Russian players were having to grit their teeth and send division after division of little lead men to their doom. I'm sure we had some mild cases of wargamer PTSD as a result … good excuse for a large vodka anyway.

The bayonet is a good boy. Better luck next time.

Yes, in this battler with so much firepower you have to charge. It sounds paradoxical but makes sense in the context.

Great report, excellent researching!

We've been having fun with the Russo-Turkish War as well lately. A very overlooked period but very colourful and full of potential scenario ideas.
