So what rules are you using for your 25/28mm WWI figs
and how many figs do you usually run in a game and how long does that game usually last.
Rules
Amount of figs used in an average game
Length of game
Thanks
Mike

We play Chain of Command, an infantry platoon of Americans against an infantry platoon of Germans (roughly). As we've gotten better at the rules, we've added equipment--last time, the Americans had a 60mm mortar, a .30 cal MMG, and a Sherman, while the Germans had an armored car. WE play at the local gaming store, and sort of start at 6:00 pm and have to be out at 9:00 when they close. Sometimes we finish the game, and sometimes we don't.

I use either GW's Great War or Iron Ivan's Price of Glory.

40-80 figs per side.

2-4 hours.

WH The Great War and its supplement Over the Top using 28mm.

Example of the game and AAR posted on blog. Platoon sized units of 10-12 miniatures… basically a battalion attacking a German company with support weapons. The scenario rosters gives a breakdown for both sides.

Belleau Woods – US Marines and French vs. Germans at Hill 142.

I play Great War Spearhead, Square Bashing, the odd outing with Crossfire, and also OP14, and my own Drumfire, with my 1/72nd scale plastic figures (who are 25mm tall…).

Duration of game and number of figures depends on the scenario, but I tend towards the operational – generally multiple divisions, if not Corps. 1 base per company or base per battalion, depending on level of game. At two figs per base you can work out how many figures are need for a Corps sized battle.

Force on Force
60 infantry figs per side usually. Tank and Rolls Royce armored car.
Will add in some machine guns as well.
3-4 hours a game.

Keep it coming guys, I'm working on 100 French at the moment and would like to have a set of rules by the time I'm done.

Chris Leach was working on a WW1 supplement or his "Battles for Empire 2" rule set. However it is on the back burner.
Companies are 8 figures or more on 4 stands. Battalions 3 or 4 companies.
I even wrote a section for gas attacks.
Our play test game were usually 3 or 4 battalions.

I ran a 1914 skirmish scenario at Texicon this summer. A crossroads in a Belgian village, defended by 24 infantry & an armored car, was assaulted by about 40 German Jaegers, Line infantry & Lancers. I used Two Hour Wargames "Chain Reaction 2" rules; the game took around 3 hours.

Too Fat Lardies; Through the Mud and Blood. As mentioned previously there is an variant of their Chain of Command rules for WWI as well.

monk2002uk27 Oct 2015 4:06 p.m. PST

For the Bolt Action Le Cateau game, we had around 50 figures on each side. The British had an Austin armoured car. Both sides had a field gun, MG team, and mortar team. The Germans had an anti-tank rifle. The game took about 2 hours.

for 25mm and also 20mm WW1 like to see the minis operating as singles …not stands..i like to personalize them..so definitivly Rapid Fire..and, for side show conflicts like East/SW Afrika and Middle East i use an adaptation of TSATF…

Ceterman28 Oct 2015 4:54 p.m. PST

We use Through the Mud and Blood, but we are gonna do a Bolt Action variant very soon. In most of our games so far we used about 100 figs, give or take a few, total. Oh & in about 4 hours usually one side or the other is gone…
