Apologies for a daft question, but I have searched on line for a guidon for my Gringo Mamelukes without success. The 1806 pattern flag seems prolific for infantry, with some square pattern for cavalry, but no one seems to do this style. Can anyone advise please?

You need sight of a copy of The French Imperial Guard by André Jouineau, pub. Histoire & Collections. Page 16 details their flags. As to where you buy the square pattern flags I've no idea – but why not paint it yourself or commission Mark Allen to paint one for you. A special unit deserves a special flag. They didn't carry them on the later campaigns but instead had a crimson square small flag fringed in silver. It's noted as 17.5" square, so very small when scaled to a miniature. |

Many thanks. That was indeed the source of the above pic. I think I may have found something on GMB, but no illustration. On order so I hope to be showing it shortly here |

I'm sure if it's GMB it will be perfect! |

In 1813 the Mamelucks had a fanion, remember the eagle wasn't carried into the field by a lot of Imperial Guard regiments, there is a Rigo plate – plate 126 showing it. I will do a photo in due course and submit it here so you can see it, it might be a very worthwhile alternative to the eagle standard |

My mamelukes will be a very confused bunch. The three in action poses are in the standardized French colours (Imperial Blue and crimson) which I thought would be dull, but actually work very well……. The parade and musicians of course will belong to a time 10 years earlier in every colour of the rainbow. Let's face it…I only have eleven figures, so I will not make Gringos' fortune. I imagine very few cavalry, esp lights, carried eagles into action by that stage, even if they did obviously go on campaign in many cases. Would love to see the Rigo plate Actually would love to see what you could do with these figures. The detail of casting is quite something. The Gendarmes d'Elite are good (very good), these are incredible |

here the Rigo plate and original – for 1813 – also chose the right saddle cloth, dark blue
Those Imperial Mamelucks are realy low on my list, but the AB 18 mm ones – they are waiting for too long to be painted – this is a spectacular set.

GMB flags arrived today. As top picture and absolutely beautiful, but von W has set me thinking with his picture for later period also………. GMB do the Mamelukes and Gendarmes d'Elite flags as a single item……surely ties in so well with gringos releases! Best work I have seen from them. Mind you, Saxon Garde du Corps….my Eureka figures will be re-equipped when I get time |
