Thirty days ago I set out to play 30 games in thirty days to do the last push in play-testing my own ancient rules (Ancient Battlelines Clash) that are designed for fast play on a 2'x2' table. I finished game 30 today, on day 30. While the other games were simply pictures of the start and end with a paragraph of narration, I have gone overboard for game 30 and have a detailed battle report with a lot of pre- and post- rambling about the game. I had loads of fun playing the 30 games. You would think I would be relieved to finish but not really – it was gaming and did not take *that* much effort, and so it is more like the passing of something interesting. There are lots of other projects to keep me going!

The full rambling and battle report is at this blog post:

Well done Shaun. That final game really shows how your rules work. Well done to you and your opponent (!)

Thanks Paul. I was just the umpire as the programmed opponents played each other, I was completely impartial :-)

I've enjoyed reading about your 30 battles. Well done. The rules look good.

Any chance of a sequel ("Another 30 battles….)?

Shaun Travers25 Oct 2015 5:58 a.m. PST

Ha Ha! A sequel! As if! Actually, I am thinking of trying to get some of the historical scenarios done by doing something similar to 30 battles in 30 days but it will be more like 50 battles in 50 weeks :-)

Well Shaun, you can now make the claims that your rules have been "extensively play-tested by expert gamer(s)" wink

Congratulations on completing your task! Now go have a Fosters Lager in celebration. I hear it's "Australian for beer." Says so in the American commercial. It must be true right? evil grin

Qlders drink XXXX.

Shaun Travers25 Oct 2015 3:11 p.m. PST

I have never met someone who drinks Fosters. Oh hang on – there was this time in 1998 I was at a party and I am sure i did see a can of Fosters…

Yeah XXXX (that I think is disgusting); I sure it was designed so that any other beer will taste good in comparison. I live on the same road as the brewery on the label (but about 1.5 kilometres further out of the city).

Oh, and I may quote you in the rules but leave out the emoticons so it can be out of context :-):

What do gamer's think of ABC: "extensively play-tested by expert gamer(s)"

On Milton Road? Toowong-way?

How about: "Extensively play-tested by exert gamer(s) ….& their mother."

Shaun Travers26 Oct 2015 2:52 a.m. PST

Auchenflower. Between Milton and Toowong. And on Milton Road (inbound side). If you know that side of town, a few houses up from where Dana's Kitchens used to be.

Well done Shaun! I wish I had the minis to try out your rules -maybe someday ;)

Now back to talking about beer and lager!

Make mine a pint of the black stuff!
