Almost every Historicon, Cold-War, and Fall-in, there is a pirate game that appears to include the whole family. I want to run this game for my family.

Does anyone have plans for scratch-building these ships, or know where I can get them?

Also, what rules are used?

Thank you – Les

Blood & Swash is a good set of pirate rules. I have them and like them.
A gentleman named Gary Chalk drew up plans for scratch building pirate ships, which look very nice. These have been posted in the Yahoo Pirate Wargames group. No charge for membership. They also seem to have the plans he drew up for buildings for a pirate scenario. I understand Mr. Chalk also did plans for a pirate hunting frigate, but I've never seen them.

I just love it, your talking the east coast shows and everyone gives you information that totally avoids what you are looking for.

The person who runs those games is Brian Whitaker. The ships that he uses are from Old Glory.

The rules that he uses are called Buccaneer Wars. And, if you are going to Fall In, you don't need to sign up for the game, he has extra ships and crews. He will supply you with the rules at no charge, just contact him at bwhitaker@erols.com.

The rules are easy to learn, allow for large ships on a 6' X 10' area, and give you the feel of Hollywood – cannons firing and then ships grappling, followed by crews boarding and fighting hand to hand.

What more could you ask for in a Pirate ship game!

I'll second the Gary Chalk plans. My crafting skills are sketchy at best, but I was able to build a decent looking brig in less than a day with foam core, balsa, and repurposed cereal box. The decks are wide enough to hold several based 28mm figures. box I love the look of the Old Glory ships, but they are built to scale and not with skirmish gaming in mind.

Limeys and slimeys may be one of the games you saw as it has been run often at those cons. It is only a couple of pages long. I may have a copy I could send you, or I can definitely get a copy to you. Are you looking to play 15 or 25 mm. Old Glory has the ships. I have a business account with Old Glory and can give you 20% discount on any thing you order.

Arrghhh. Shiver me timbers. You're a hoot!

I built mine from balsa masts, balsa planking in the deck, insulation for the hull, cardboard for covering the sides of the hull with stripes, and cardboard with rectangular stripes on top to make the sails, roll the stripes arond the yards.
I play with mordheim and the general's compendium

I also use to play Limeys and Slimeys in 15mm. The rules were easy and the games always fun. I've been watching Buccaneer Wars in 28mm and it looks like fun but, a little more complex then L & S. I have purchased an Old Glory Brigantine it looks like its going to be tight getting 30 crew members on board but, the rules let you have crew below decks to make it easier. At this years Historicon I noticed that several players showed up with their own ships. I liked that idea. There is a ship and plans featured in the Warhammer, "Legends of The High Seas" rule book.

Don't forget Ainsty. They have some very good ships and good prices.

I think there is a dealer in the USA.
