My god yet another use for Frostgrave other than Frostgrave. In as many days I've seen it repurposed for Star Wars and now Victoriana! Apart from maybe The Sword and the Flame, is there any rule set that gets as much play outside of the game intended/written? Black Powder I guess too, though that's not quite right as it was designed as a tool box. What else? |

Barker's DBx system has been widely re-purposed. In print we have rules for Ancients, Renaissance and Fantasy. He has on the WRG website free downloads for versions using the same mechanisms for Horse and Musket, pre-Deadnought naval and modern skirmish. I have seen unofficial variants for Renaissance, Horse and Musket, Napoleonic naval, and even sci-fi starship battles. Cheers, JohnG |

Sharp practice. Used for Civil War, something with crossbows, American Revolution, and I think there is a scifi version. |

DBA. Look at all those magazine articles in the 1990's. |

TSATF are the best in that regard. But Bolt Action have real potential… |

As above, DBx has spawned a zillion period variants including naval and sci fi. AK47 had also been used for a wide range of different periods. |

Piquet. Originally writtten for Napoleonics now covers many different periods. |

Song of Blades and Heroes and dare I say Warhammer, both used for ancient/fantasy to modern/sci-fi. |

DBA… variants for naval (pre-dreadnought), gunpowder (18 – 19th century, renaissance, napoleonic, modern naval, etc etc. Without a doubt the single most re-used set of mechanisms ever. |

Anything simple can be readily adapted for other periods. I would go for Charge! and Volley and Bayonet which I use as the basis for most stuff. |

QILS was written to be multi-genre. There are genres where the dynamics built into the mechanics work well, others where it works adequately, and others not at all. I like seeing other people put on games and see where they set them. |

The Sword and the Flame I have used the One Hour Wargame rules for multiple periods but they are kind of written for that |

We have used GASLIGHT for ancients to WWII; although it was written for VSF and pulp. We have used it for small games in which each play has just four figures to large games where players each control several ten-figure units, including vehicles. It has rules for making weapons, vehicles, and creatures. It has rules for pulp style super heroes and native witch doctors. There is even a role-playing game and a free zombie supplement. Finally it works well for both historical games and games with fanciful elements. |

I use The Sword and the Flame and Fire and Fury for everything. Currently working on a Hundred Years War variant for RF and F. |
