Since I'm gaming and not model building would any acrylics work for this scale?

I want them to look decent enough on the table, but I'm wondering if the cheapy $1 USD a bottle acrylics would be fine over the $4 USD specialty paints?

Also, if airbrushing the cheaper paints, what's a good source for thinning them out?

Thanks

Craft acrylics won't airbrush even passably well unfortunately, but may work brushed on.

I've used some craft acrylics on modern jets, since I couldn't find the colors needed/desired for Soviet jet belly blue.

Went with pool blue, and added either a little white, or gray (can't recall which now, but it should be pretty obvious). Worked great.

Also used it, IIRC for some Israeli desert camo, and mixed my own there as well, especially for the very light green color they use. Also used craft tan, I think for the overall color.

Matched spot-on with images and pics I've seen.

Hand-painted, with a brush.

They're so small, that's easy and quick to do, especially if you work in batches, assembly-line fashion.

Oh, and before you ask, yes, I did thin them a bit with a little water.

The cheap acrylic paint you can but in craft stores is usually too watery for use on figures.

I always use Coat d'Arms acrylic paints on figures and models.

I've tried craft paints on figures, but like MajorB, I've found it's either too water, or there's not enough pigment.

I do use it on terrain projects & for colors on figure bases.

I use Delta Ceramcoat acrylics almost (~99%) exclusively. I paint micro armour, 1/2400 WW2 naval, 1/600 fantasy naval, Battletech, Epic 40k, etc. Some bottles (<5%) will cause problems with being too thin and require multiple coats. I've been successful with a cheap airbrush with every color I've tried. The challenge has been finding the right thinner to paint ratio; the worst was 75% thinner.

I have not tried any cheaper craft paints (I've been satisfied with Ceramcoat, so why change?)
