Just found out about a Command & Colors (Memoir' 44) like game set in a not-40K sci fi universe that would lend itself to the use of minis: Ars Victor! |

"Only it's against my religion to give money to GW so I won't be using GW (or even 28mm minis)!" I see why you put this in 15mm, but might do as well or better in 6mm. Depending on the sign up, I'll give it a look. Thanks! Doug |

I have a copy of Ars Victor and have played it several times. I enjoy the Command & Colors mechanic and this game does a good job of using the mechanic in a sci-fi setting. Minis would work well for this game, but you need to have something there to keep track of the unit stats as the unit cards have lots of variety between them. It isn't as simple as infantry, tanks and artillery (like in Memoir 44). I had thought about doing banners with the unit stats on them if I ever painted minis for this game. |

Ah, I thought you might have missed this. i know you like C&C mechanics, but I wasn't sure you knew of this particularly. Sadly, you probably mentioned it already. I was assuming more complex than M'44, but something indicating which card isn't enough? Even matching tokens to set on the fig stand and on the card? Doug |

"I see why you put this in 15mm, but might do as well or better in 6mm." It probably makes even more sense in 6mm… But 6mm infantry is a bit small for my taste. I see the point of that scale if you want more than a couple of vehicle on your table (i.e. company scope games) and then you've got to have matching infantry… But Ars Victor is a infantry only game (so far?) and chalk it on my eyesight, but I'd get the impression of playing with colour coded rice grains… |

"Minis would work well for this game, but you need to have something there to keep track of the unit stats as the unit cards have lots of variety between them. It isn't as simple as infantry, tanks and artillery (like in Memoir 44)." 1. I think the different units are specific enough that well chosen miniatures should leave no doubt about which mini represent which unit. 2. The only stats that are specific to a given unit (in case you have several ones of the same type on the table) are the number of remaining hit points, the card suit it is activated by and if the unit is your HQ… The number of hitpoints can be shown by having grouping the minis of a given unit on a number of stands equal to that unit hit points, take a hit and remove a stand. For the suits and HQ a marker or banner added to the unit would do. 3. The stats of the all (or even of the 4 of 5 ones you're actually playing with for a given game) different type of units can easily be summarized in a small table (index card sized). In fact, the official QRS has both factions tokens printed on half a page. |
