Heya Folks!

You all may have noticed that today is indeed the 'future' according to the somewhat excellent Back to The Future series of films, something indeed worth celebrating.

It is also, some would argue more importantly, the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

You can read about it in many good history books (and on Wikipedia too for those after a quick precis).

Why am I drawing you attention to this fact… because Orcs in the Webbe is proud to bring you two items as part of it's Flintloque Archive Project that were once online but had dropped off many moons ago.

First up is the official Valonic take on the battle, Trafalgore by Alternative Armies own Gavin Syme. It includes a cracking short piece of fiction to set the scene as well as details of the miniatures available to represent the Orc Navye of Albion.

And also a cracking much older file from the archives, Danny O'Hara's Rowloque – One of the first attempts at creating rules and background for controlling the ships that make up the Navye's of Valon.

Excellent!

No hover boards but some good fantasy black powder fun.

Thanks Craig. Nelsorc would be proud.

Great story.

TRUE STORY.

As a youngster my father ran The Trafalgar pub on Mumbles Road, Swansea – I spent many a happy hour looking out over Swansea Bay from one of the upstairs windows.

Dad was always a bit of a prankster and one of his favourite tricks was to blag a free drink from any pub that had any sort of link to Nelson.

The blag would go something like this.

Dad would order his drink – A pint of……..

and when he was asked to pay – he would show his business card and say 'Part of the Nelson Club!"

What?

The Nelson Club. You know Free drinks in any pub that has an association to Nelson, Trafalgar or Victory. Cheers!

The conversation would obviously get around to What? Who? Why?

And Dad's explanation would go something like this.

Any Pub Landlord in a pub or hotel that was in any way associated with Nelson belonged to The Nelson Club and was therefore entitled to a free drink.

Surely you've heard of it?

When we were caravanning across England, he would regularly pull this trick and thought of it as a personal challenge to see if he could keep his success record up.

In most cases Dad would talk his way into at least one free drink – and then proceed to buy a round, paying back the gift of free grog.

To my knowledge he did this dozens of times and I am not sure he was ever refused a free drink!

Happy Trafalgar Day Dad.

Tony
