According to my brother's research for his CW novels, (Philip McBride: WHITTLED AWAY follows the 6th Texas through the war; TANGLED HONOR and REDEEMING HONOR are the first two parts of a trilogy about 5th Texas -- available on Amazon):

Many of the commissary and wagon drivers wore red pantaloons taken from the NY zouaves killed at 2nd Manassas. So if you have an ammo wagon for the Texas Brigade, you can give the driver black skin (which I mostly do for Confederate wagons anyway) and dirty red zouave pants.
