Very nice.

Nice, what did you use to make the trench walls?

Very impressive. The sandbag wall is a really nice touch. I'll have to try that.

Very nice. I never use trenches because they end up being walls but those are very natural looking. Have you thought of adding some troops inside in place of the stands to show which are occupied and which are not?

These look fantastic. at a time when I'm looking for inspiration. Good timing :-)

No worry on the title, these trenches could easily be used in WWII as well. EXCELLENT work!

Cerdic19 Oct 2015 6:50 a.m. PST

They look like the contemporary aerial photos of trench systems!

I also want to know how you made the trench sides…

Grignotage19 Oct 2015 9:04 a.m. PST

Wow, those are excellent. Thanks for posting.

Thanks all,

The trench sides are made of card and are part of the template, which I've now posted here:

I think this is one of the main advantages of 6mm, it is easier to make realistic trenches and is what eventually swayed me to do this period in this scale. The aerial photo effect is what I was aiming for.

I had thought of putting figures in the trenches but in practise probably won't as it will probably end up as twice as many figures to paint and possibly twice or more as many trenches to make (ie one set of figures for in the trench and one set for out, and possibly one empty set of trenches and one occupied etc.), but I may give it a try I have one or two ideas for this that may work…

Actually here is what I was thinking….

Make a narrow strip that will fit in the trench. Glue a few appropriate figures to it – firing or standing. Prime black. Then paint just the shoulders and heads.

Now when one of your stands "occupies" the trench you remove the stand – or put it a few inches to the rear – and put a few of these markers in.

Since you only have to paint heads and shoulders – and they can be a bit spread out – it would not be too much to paint I think.
