I don't own an airbrush currently, but can see where I may need to get one, in order to have the ability to apply the widest range of colors to armor and aircraft models.
So, I'm curious to know how far those little 1/2 oz. jars of enamel, or acrylic paints go when painting the following scales of WWII, and/or Cold War armor models, with a base coat?
1/87th – 1/100th scale
1/144th scale (10mm – 12mm)
1/285th – 1/300th scale
I provided a range of options above, since I need to paint all of those, and suspect some of you have only done one, or two, but not all three scales.
Do you use the gravity feed cup, or do you prefer to premix jars with the paint and thinner, at the desired ratios, instead?
If the latter, generally what ratio(s) of paint to thinner do you use?
1/2 oz. of paint doesn't seem like it will stretch very far when painting some of the larger, 1/100th scale, and bigger minis, but perhaps I'm wrong about that.
Finally, do any of you use craft paints with your air brush, when painting armor?
I suspect some do, but imagine it might be a bit more challenging to use than regular modeling enamels, and/or acrylics, since it seems to be a bit thicker.
