I had a whole load of similar toy tanks, but mainly post-WWII designs, which I tarted up, painted and based to try and hide the bottom. Didn't think of doing that with any of them though…

I use a clear thumb tack as a flight stand of grav tanks. Cheap, sturdy, transparent, and has a pin built in. Nice looking tanks!

I like these ones because the treads are snap-on separate and the turret is a tight fit lift out/push in. The simple four part design is easy to put together and very flexible for conversion.
