Don't know why but when I read the thread title I read it as Russian War Monkeys….

When I was a teenager I had a set of post cards about Russian monasteries. Many of them were designed as fortresses. I think that Russian monks depicted here were the unofficial garrisons of such places. Many monks were ex soldiers and experienced warriors.
