AB perhaps? The old SHQ and FAA sculpts were quite nice too. Battlefield (?) also makes/made some nice looking stuff. Can't recall if they're still available, and sold under that name, or another now, but are worth checking out too. |

Britannia miniatures sells Battlefield miniatures. AB are the best but pricy. |

Metal: AB by a long way also IMHO But I would consider Battlefield, Blitz, CP Models, TQD – all very nice SHQ and FAA have good detail, only a bit too much on the short side for my liking I like Britannia but I think it's more a matter of personal taste here Lamercraft offers very nice sculpts, perhaps more for modellers than wargamers Plastic: Italeri make a good set (6068 – Elite Troops) almost in hard plastic, Pegasus 7204 (German mortar teams) and 7510 (German 75mm le IG 18) are worth considering, Caesar make tons of Germans, the only complain is their plastic is soft |

Plastic: oddly enough, as I bought all their 1/72 products, I forgot to mention the Plastic Soldier Company – hard plastic, their minis take the paint well, less unwanted plastic where the mould does not reach then other manufacturers |

I always liked the Dave Alsop germans from the old mlr/combat miniatures. |

Whenever the question "which are the best 20mm (insert nationality/type)?" arises, the answer is always; if AB do them, it's AB. |

Sorry but Britannia does not sell battlefield miniatures The Kelly's Heros range of Germans is nice imo especially the Fallschrimjaeger link |

Another vote for AB – every time I paint them I am grateful! I only wish Mr.B musters a platoon of US Paras someday!! |

Battlefield look pretty good and don't forget Elheim. |

I have mixed Elhiem, Battlefield/Blitz, AB, and Warmodelling with great results.
I also think TQD/CP would fit in well with these ranges, too. FAA might also work well, but personally I think the helmets are a bit off. Britannia has a huge range, but like others have said, they're either love 'em or hate 'em. SHQ have a solid offering as well, but are closer to 1/76 scale than the larger ranges mentioned above.
