I have just bought a couple of copies these books and become inspired to recreate these battles in miniature. I would be interested to know if there are any other wargamers out there who may also be interested in obscure naval battles like Riachuelo as I am considering making some resin and white metal ships in 1/1200 and would like to sell copies of the ships to offset some of my tooling costs. |

Sure. Something bigger than 1:2400 for Riachuelo would be good. |

Count me in on this endeavor! |

I fear that 1/600 would be too big for most people. 1/1200 is pretty popular for the Ironclad period and the detail is very good at that scale. |

Looking at the stats. overall the Paraguayan vessels drew less water than the Brazilian fleet but had lighter guns and they intended to use boarding action more than gunfire. Several Brazilian vessels ran aground during the fight so any rules need to reflect this. The Paraguayans used hidden gun batteries to good effect and the Brazilians used ramming tactics even though the ships were not designed to ram. |

It would be great if you could include ships for Salnave's War into your project, and best of luck in your endeavour: these conflicts are fascinating and cry out for some miniatures! Nick |

Yes the Salnave's war was the other book I bought, It also looks interesting with several ex civil war ships taking part. I wanted to get a copy of the Chincha Islands war book as well but its out of print now so I will use other sources. I had a look at the possibility of making the models in 1/600 but it would have trebled the cost of production so I am settled on 1/1200 now as the uptake will likely be small due to the wars relative obscurity. Riachuelo looks like an interesting battle with several 'what if' versions possible. I just need to get a few more people willing to sign up to the idea now then look for some appropriate rule sets. |

I would definitely pick up what is needed for Riachuelo in 1/1200. Bill Warner's book is outstanding and I recommend it to anyone with a serious interest in the period. Same for Salnave's War. I wish he would bring out something on the Brazilian fleet in the Paraguayan War, they had some unusual ironclads later on. |
