"The team behind Lands of Ruin game has released 6 free and open source 3D models for post-apocalyptic tribe characters. These 3D models can be used to home print these models in 28mm scale skirmish gaming (a pretty high quality printer is required though). The use of open source license also allows anyone to take these models, modify them and redistribute or even sell the printed models. The only requirement is that the the work has an attribution to the original work and any derivative work is also open source under the same license. Is there room for open source model creation in the miniature gaming hobby alongside the more traditional approach? If you have 3D modelling skills try creating your own based on these models and if you have access to a 3D printer try printing the models and see if the quality is good enough for your use." link link link Main page link Amicalement Armand |

The comments on the site are correct – home printers can't print 28mm models. 60mm is the smallest half-decent model I have seen off an fdm printer. Paid for 3D models won't happen as there is already a large number of models available from computer games – buildings and figures. |

There is one home printer that could them: FormLabs. Uses scanning laser to solidify resin in tank/tray. Admittedly at $4,000 USD is expensive but could do own line of figures or mastering service. |

Once the price on high-quality home printers comes down below $2,000 USD, I will own one. |
