Finally got this project finished (distracted by the Gringo Mamelukes and Gendarmes!)
I was trying to portray the less famous coach from Napoleon's Household, also captured in Genappe. It survives and is exhibited in Malmaison. It is largely scratch-built, but based on the Westfalia chassis for the landau. The rear wheels were some spares from Phoenix. The horses are a Westfalia mixture and the postillion is a converted postman from their range. He was the last addition and, alas, the photos do not show him well as he is obscured by the officers! Obviously the rest are Perrys' with a Front Rank Lef Desnouettes.
I suspect the chasseurs should have the red bag on the colpack, as they are meant to be in attendance on Boney. The general's map does indeed show the cross roads at Mt St Jean by the way! OK, should not be apples on the trees for June though……….

Many pics of the construction, but especially the prototype in Malmaison, on Imageshack which does seem to be functioning once more;

Very kind of you all. I must show the postillion, having added him as an afterthought. All you see is his arm and his pipe!
It might be interesting to see some of the stages in construction. My previous carriages were a bit "boxy". This does have the curves now that I have learnt how to shape plastic sheet better. The brass strip seems impossible to get now. All model shops have run out and cannot replace. My last strips went on the springs and suspension………..

wow!

Deadhead: Ditto to the sentiments expressed above. Your beautiful model has prompted me to attempt to learn something of the different kind of coaches used in the Napoleonic period, the different styles and what they were refered to as. Much more to it then I expected. Thanks for posting the photos. John Miller

Been thinking about 18mm model feasibility.

It has been done in 1/72;

OK, it is not actually a Berline, as John Miller will now know, but look at the interior work!

For 18mm the challenge would be the wheels. I have no knowledge of what is available in that scale but spent the morning looking through ranges. First thing that strikes me is how much better proportioned are the figures, when compared with many a 28mm offering!

The cab would be easily built, indeed I imagine it would make an easy resin casting for some enterprising maker. I would not even glaze the windows. Careful shading and gloss varnish would be perfect. Reducing my plans 28mm to 18mm took seconds, with modern technology of course.

Horses abound. But the only wheels I can find are artillery….very large and heavy duty……

By the way. Please indulge me with one more image. My various coaches could not have been done without Westfalia, who show the courage to produce what could sometimes be "fringe stuff" and never make their fortune. So here is their postman, now a Postillion!

The map readers could have a balloon coming out saying "Hougoumont? Nope, not on here. That wood is our route to the ridge top!"

and the blue is not really that intense. The very top picture shows it right (daylight, not tungsten bulbs)

Albion metals should be able to supply brass strip ( last time I looked) as for wheels try the Railway modelling side of things someone like Langley models might have something siutable for an 18mm version.
I have a 6mm one thats been sitting in the WIP box for about 4 years lol.

Your wish is my command………

So far I have done the destroyed Berline, the Waterloo Dispatch poste chaise, the Westfalia landau and the post coach…but also;

Made from the Schilling coach which is bit earlier than 1815, so not ideal. If I was doing it again I would convert it to have the door centred, not forward. The Household figures, esp the Black Musketeers, do appear in the film.
