It really shouldn't be this difficult, but it is. Still looking for a reasonable color match, preferably from Model Master, or Vallejo, in either enamel or acrylic. 34087 doesn't seem to be the color I want, despite many stating it is. See here on TMP, for a lot of previous discussions and suggestions: TMP link Looking for a decent, dark green, or almost chocolate brown color to match Cold War pics, and/or the first four vehicles shown at the top of the link above. As you can see from the link I provided below, the 34087 recommended appears to me to be way too yellow, or tan for my needs: link Even the guy posting the pics at the above link thinks the color is too light on his 1/35th scale tank. Looking to paint 1/285th, 1/144th, and 1/100th vehicles, if you think that matters. May have to go with craft paints for the 1/100th armor, but would prefer to avoid that for the smaller vehicles, in order to not have the thicker paints cover up detailing. Thoughts? |

Hobbymaster seems to have a decent color for their tanks, e.g. M48, etc.. Anyone know what paint range and colors they use? link |

Personally, I like the Testor's Olive Drab. Personal opinion, of course. |

OldGren, do you mean the old Testor's Pla Enamel, or the newer formulated-for-airbrush stuff? |

Revell NATO-Oliv looks right. |

FWIW the photos of the M48 kit above seem to be color shifted. I build a lot of scale models, and certainly have used Testors enamel OD in the past, and those photos make it look much lighter and more yellow than my experience in the "real world." The Testors OD is fine for the most part; if I were to complain about it, I'd say its a little too green. If you want a dark OD, Tamiya Olive Drab is quite dark. I use it undilluted for cold war armor too (even though the color probably didn't change since WWII). Damon. |

This is an interesting article by Zaloga although it is completely unhelpful in regards to your IP. link I read somewhere that the MM ANA 613 OD was a good fit for Cold War US tactical vehicles providing an out of the bottle faded effect. Or you could go down to your local hardware store and buy a can of Krylon Camouflage Olive Drab spray paint. You wouldn't be off by much. |

613, that it. I was trying to remember this morning which one that I used, but couldn't. Anyway, that would be my recommendation for MM. |

Is there a reason u have to match the photo? I'd go to an army surplus store, find a small item in the proper color and take that to the hobby shop or paint store to match color. |

I go to Wal-Mart and buy the Rust-Oleum Camouflage 2X Ultra Cover 279175 Deep Forest Green. I was in the Army Reserve from 1978 to 1992 and this color looks perfect to me on 1/87 scale vehicles. Also, OD sometimes was shiny, so a semi-gloss coat might work for some. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |
