This is (at least temporarily) my favourite Roman cohort- the minis were painted and mostly based by David Imrie. It's a unit for a new army that I'm slowly raising to close what I call my "Middle Imperial Gap." I love the variety of gear available on the A&A range figuures. More on t'blog: link Cheers, Simon |

Lovely work again, Simon – those pesky horse archers seem to be having an effect. |

Beautiful, simply beautiful figures! I myself am painting a 3rd century army from A&A and they are a joy to paint up. Other than a few oddities, like soldiers with spathae drawn still having a sword in their sheathe, they live up to Adam's Aventine line. Those interested should definitely pick these bad boys up and not be turned off by the pictures on the site which are equally as unattractive as the pictures on the old glory site. |

Lovely! Mr. Imrie does know how to use a brush. The basing and details you added are icing on a very attractive cake. |

Excellent cohort – makes me think again of A&A as the basis for a Palymran army with a Roman core. I keep painting up cataphracts…….. Garry |

Great figures! I highly favor A&A figures also. They are of very good quality and paint up well. I have in active production a Middle Imperial Roman force. I have figures from their "4th" Century range. Planning it to be a legion under Diocletian. I plan to post the units here as I finish them. Always good to see Middle Imperial Romans. Thanks for sharing. |

Thanks all! I'm really delighted to own them, even though they make all my other minis look shabby. ;-) Best, Simon |

I am especially impressed by the variety in the figures. The poses, detailing, and even the expressions on their faces, make them appear as 18 individuals, yet form a cohesive unit. You also get the impression of this an a transition period. Some legionaries have the rectangular scutum common in early imperial into the middle period and others with the oval that was used from the late Roman to Byzantine period. Hard for me to tell if they have the gladius or spatha. You can also see the pilum alongside the long spear used in late Roman period. Segmented plate armor common to legionaries in early to middle period alongside the chain mail legionaries used in late period. In building up my Middle Imperial army I am doing a lot of research on the period. All these aspect stand out to me from looking at your model. A perfect example of the transition period that the Third Century was. This unit is not only a gaming piece, but a 3D representation of the soldiers of the period. This gives me a lot of idea and inspiration to work on my Middle Imperials. |

Thanks! When I get a chance I'll post the complementary light units, I also have matching lanciarii and sagittarii. |
