In the poll the majority voted against splitting theboards.

The poll has closed and it got the 55 votes of support, so when will the two boards be split ???

The 50+ votes only applies for setting up a new board, not splitting an existing one.

Yawn.

Give it a rest.

"Yes" was not worded for support. It was a straight yes/no vote, and splitting lost.
At least that's how I interpret it.

In the poll the majority voted against splitting theboards.

Would the new 50+% rule apply? In that case, the poll resulted in no action.

As I understand it, a majority or even plurality overrides the minimum number (50) of "Yea" votes required.

So even if 72 voted to split the UM board (tying the "Nays") it still wouldn't be enough.

By the same token, if 49 voted "Yea" and 0 voted "Nay" it would also fall short of the minimum number required.

The closest result that would succeed in splitting the UM board while also meeting the minimum requirements would be 50 for and 49 against.

For the record I voted to split the board but expected it to fail. I also think the requirement is a fair one because creating new boards shouldn't be easy since we don't want to see a proliferation of unnecessary boards on TMP.

So the UM Board will suffer a split-personality?

Mako1114 Oct 2015 4:39 p.m. PST

Last I saw, it was about 2:1 against the split proposed.

There is an UM Board???

Is it for indecisiveness?

As I understand it, a majority or even plurality overrides the minimum number (50) of "Yea" votes required.

Not to CREATE a new Board.
Let's say that a Poll comes up "Would you support the creation of a War of Jenkins Ear Board?"
In this case if 50 vote to support it, that is enough to create it, even if 245 vote against it.
This is different. This is to gauge support for people who will participate in it.

If my recent Poll to allow "politics" on Ultramodern got 50 Yes votes with 245 against, then it would fail. This is a "policy" poll and not a "support a new board" poll.

Oh the suspense…

Sounds like a bug.

If you don't get the result you want, can you just ask it again? Isn't that double jeopardy or something?

Of course, sometimes that just gets you banished to the naughty step…. (FWIW, I think your new topic has a basic problem straight off, as the official fiction is that there's no politics allowed on the UM board anyway….)

He's only following the EU's usual technique. grin

Tell that to the sad people who keep wanting a "Like" button.

As students military history and subjects. We should all know, especially on a UM type board, politics, geo-politics, "Realpolitik", military ops, missions, etc. are going to be very closely intertwined…

I'm not interested in Zombies … so I don't got to a topic about Zombies. See the paradigm here ?

Yet there arguably remains a case for a board where UM *gaming* (uniforms, to&es, painting guides, battle reports) could be discussed, divorced from the surrounding nonsense….

Could be … but many topics there don't lend themselves to always being separate from as you say "the surrounding nonsense". Which in many cases I agree is polarized, biased, etc. … Some can't miss an opportunity to add their takes on politics, geo-politics, a nations' leadership, etc., for better or worse, etc. … For some … it's just in their nature.
