We played our first game of The Great War last Sunday (I know, it's taken a while…). There is more information about what I felt about the game on my blog:

Thanks for reading!

Interesting report, thanks. Although I'm quite a fan of the "Command & Colours" system, I probably won't go for this one as WWI is not a period I'm that interested in.

And I still think casualty caps look completely silly …

Thanks MajorB, it may be worth your while if you're already a fan of the system. You never know it may even spark an interest in the First World War.

MajorB, I was sceptical before I played the game. Within a familiar structure it did have quite a differentf feel to the other c&c games I've played.

WE ARE DEVO and casualties in the Great War .

jameshammyhamilton14 Oct 2015 3:27 p.m. PST

The game is intended to be played with individual figures and figure removal. By the look of it these figures are painted and based so something needs to be done to indicate losses.

I do like the Devo picture though :D

Thanks for the AAR and the feedback on the game.

As kit says in the blog the plastic figures supplied were being painted so Abwehrschlact used PP figures based for Square Bashing, hence the casualty markers.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of the game in a MWBG competition and it's very playable and good fun.Solo gaming works well with it too as the cards can influence things without the player being able to favour one side over another.

Think you missed one rule on your second play. The Brits score one Victory Point if any number of their troops are in the German trenches – not one Victory Point per unit.

Abwehrschlacht16 Oct 2015 5:16 a.m. PST

As already mentioned, yeah, we used my peter pig figures to play the game. Oops, I did miss the rule about capturing trenches!

There is running a kickstarter currently for the first supplement: The Tank expansion!

I'm sure it plays well as a game. It's just not a period I am at all interested in.

Is there a forum anywhere that you can go to with questions regarding the rules, as we feel some are in need of a little clarification?.

Thanks Abwehrschlacht, it hadn't crossed my mind to go to the C&C website. Face palm.
Some useful info on there and scenarios as well, just what I needed.
