I seem to remember several movies over the years that used video games to develop controllers…this seems to be real. link

It's an interesting thought, but with the distance from the main lines only being 3 mi, and artillery range being farther than that, and with the need to radiate SOME kind of signal to control the drones, I wouldn't call it SAFE. |

yeah. i can't see some gamer kid saying, "sure! i'd love to be in some artillery batteries beaten zone, trying to remote control a tank." |

Plus the fun of sucking up an anti radiation missile as soon as you light up your controller. |

All I can see is that they will have more problems then it's worth, maintenance just for one not just the tanks, now you'll have the remote controlling section as well, auto reloading don't always reload! The view is restricted when your under fire all button up now your going to restrict it even more to a couple of screens you'll just only miss those guys with hand held AT's that are just waiting for the moment to hit one these clinkers in the backside taking out the main power source. Transportation just how does one plan to move all of this at once, understanding that these tanks may have a 300 mile range and the controller has only a 3 mile range that's a lot of leap frogging, or your going to need transportation trucks to move everything leading to more problems. Just to many what ifs for it to really work effectively. |

I'm in if I can do it from my couch, and they can ensure no internet attacks, or interruption of the local pizza delivery service. Do we get bonus pay for high scores? |

Great! Now they just need to invent a robot that can dismount from the tank to fix a thrown track… :-) |

I can see some countries doing this, mostly the smaller population ones. This looks like a stop gap, as they have many extra tanks until they build the next line, and a live test of what needs to change. So a good test bed to learn how far things can be pushed. Not having to have humans in the tank leaves room for other things. Repairs will be as issue, but then they always are. As for the distance, that can be increased quickly. So then it becomes a gird hacking war trying to disrupt drone controls, and new tech will emerge, then that will be overcome, and we will be back to people in the machines again, or AI type control. With AR coming into being I suspect we will see a leap in Sensor tech, and semi autonomous sensor drones will be swarming the battle fields as well. The Drone operators will be using VR or AR with a second running the Sensors. My largest fear is as easy as it is to start a war now, when you reduce the human cost to go to war, how many more will jump to have one. The Corps. making the war machines will want wars to make as much money as possible. |

Not a huge problem. Just send in the robot towing vehicle to lasso and tow the broken down one back to a base in the rear area, where it can be repaired by humans, until they can design repair bots to do that in the field. |

I think the biggest problem will be that gamers are used to turning the turrets and whatnot and the barrels not colliding with anything, especially in the game World Of Tanks. Not to mention collisions with other battlefield debris causing all sorts of damage to the tank itself and driving off cliffs and along inclines that are too steep… this whole thing is too flawed at the moment. They should instead teach real tankers how to play video games because at least they'll go into it with knowledge of how a tank operates and what it can and can't do and won't try to do something gamey like trying to get on top of a building to jump across a street to another. |

The GOOD gamers will adapt after a bit of training. Given the controls in most modern tanks, along with the electronic nav, visual displays, night vision, etc. , I thought most tankers already qualified as gamers from this point of view. ;->= Doug |

From what I have seen real tankers play a lot of video games. The training they use are real video games (40 tanks and bradlies simulators hook up together). |
