Interested to see how many boxes of plastics people have bought. I'm a slow painter and use plastics to add to metal armies so only 12 boxes for me.

I typically use small scales, but bought a box of infantry to see how they might work for me in my small space, then I needed to see how big the cavalry were, then how big the artillery was.

i have ended up over a number of months with 5 boxes of 28mm and 4 boxes of 1/72, but perhaps stupidly in 5 different periods!

I am all over the place. :-)

I bought three boxes of 1/72 plastic Goblins, from Caesar, as they are the proper size, per 1977 1st Ed. AD&D Monster Manual, for my 28mm Humans. It is working very well for me, as they are wearing loin cloths, so painting them was very quick: paint their legs, torso, head, and arms, the same color; paint their weapons, and then apply The Dip, to finish them. I've also bought some 1/72 Dark Alliance Orcs riding Wargs, to use as Goblins on Wolves. These are taking longer, as they are more complex to paint -- more detailed. I bought two boxes of each type: Light, and Heavy riders. I also bought two boxes of 1/72 Caesar Elves, as they, too, are more correct in size for what I want. They are also more detailed, so slower to paint. They will, however, make excellent Drow figures. Cheers!

At this point it must be close well over 100 boxes of plastics. I just bought another 10 boxes of Perry French a few weeks ago.

This is if you don't count GW boxes. If you count those it could be close to 300.

Have bought? Probably close to 100 all comers, including GW

Yeah, I have a few. Not many actually on the table though.

Currently have 15 waiting to be started. And I am working on one box of zouaves right now.

However, in my defense, I do tend to buy well ahead of the painting table, be it plastic or metal.

Zero. Everything I need right now is in pewter/lead, or I bought it all before plastics became a hit.

I do have a sprue of dismounted dragoons and a pair of British riflemen.

I have zombie apocalypse stuff in plastic and some old Warhammer stuff but no other historicals.

I have one box of Perry WOR mercenaries (I think) unopened to see if I like them better than the Victrix French Napoleonic Infantry I tried. Otherwise I have metal for my historicals at this point.

zippyfusenet13 Oct 2015 1:26 p.m. PST

The Perry plastic ACW got me started doing 25mm ACW in plastic and lead. But I've only bought the one box…um, couple of…um, few boxes. But I'm gonna call a halt now till I get everything painted up…um, wait…

zippyfusenet13 Oct 2015 1:30 p.m. PST

Sigh. I also have about 20 boxes of various 1/72 WWII figures. I've told myself I'm not building or playing with 20mm WWII any more. I've sold off a couple of armies for peanuts. It's no use. I know I'm going back to them one day.

More then I would ever admit to. If I think about it too long I start to realize just how much I spend on toy soldiers. That is not something I want to think about.

About 50 over the last 10 years

Recently I have purchased three boxes of the Fireforge Plastics as I am trying to get enough circa 13th Century Figures painted for a Lion Rampant demo game I am planning on running at Millennium Con in Round Rock, Texas. Love the figures btw. In addition to these recent purchases I have bought Warlord and Rubicon 1/56 scale tank models for WW II, and most of each of the War of the Roses and Late Medieval Perry Miniature Plastics. Then there are the plastic Normans and Vikings so well over ten boxes and much of it recent.

0 28mm plastics. Never will buy any.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP13 Oct 2015 4:58 p.m. PST

Too many, I'll have to live to 200 to get them all painted as slow as I paint.

More than I want to count … lol.

kallman13 Oct 2015 7:13 p.m. PST

I should add that at some point I am going to get back to running and playing ancients again and the Victrix plastic Ancient Greeks, Carthaginians, Republican Romans…well you get the picture.

I bought 32 or 36 painted plastic Perry Rebs but, other than that, none in 25mm

pogoame13 Oct 2015 11:29 p.m. PST

started 5 years ago with 28mm plastics (after decades of 15mm)
WSS : 11 boxes painted out of 30 (Wargames Factory)
ECW : 12 boxes painted out of 20 (Warlord)
ANCIENTS : 12 boxes painted out of 31 (Conquest, Warlord, Gripping Beast, Victrix, Perry, Fireforge)

About 25 ECW, 10 Colonial and 10 Napoleonic – all in 54mm though.

I did buy a Perry Sudanese warriors box in 28mm but still haven't got around to assembling them…

zero 28's. I've been buying 1/72's since the 70's. No telling how many boxes since then.

coopman14 Oct 2015 5:24 a.m. PST

I have probably bought 8 boxes of Perry plastic WOTR infantry so far. 3 boxes of plastic Arabs. 8 boxes of Perry ACW figures.

Zargon14 Oct 2015 7:51 a.m. PST

Yes! But thankfully I don't feel like I've got a problem :) I mean I can quit any time..annny time. 8+)

wrgmr114 Oct 2015 8:55 a.m. PST

Only 3 boxes of 28mm, lots more in 1/72.

Dexter Ward14 Oct 2015 9:25 a.m. PST

I must have painted about 20 boxes of 28mm plastics of ancient & Napoleonic figures – currently no unpainted boxes left.

Mike Target15 Oct 2015 3:25 a.m. PST

Not sure how many boxes this is (and its not counting GW)-
300+figs for WSS, 100+ ECW, 250ish AZW, around 50 for ww2, about 600 Naps, 300 WOTR, plus a few others, WGF skellies, GB dark age infantry etc, probably another 100 or so all told. All painted. And the plastics something of a minority compared to the metal…

Thinking of branching out into the bronze age next, preferably plastic due to cost and weight. Really want to do a quite early bronze age army (proto-chariots etc) but not sure how best to do that with the current ranges available.

RABeery15 Oct 2015 10:26 a.m. PST

Some impressive totals. There must be some profit for the manufacturers as new stuff keeps coming out.

Mick in Switzerland15 Oct 2015 1:17 p.m. PST

I have bought and painted a lot of plastic 28mm. I have counted 33 boxes but there may be more – most of it has been painted.

3 boxes Wargames Factory Caesar's Romans
3 boxes plus Warlord & Wargames Factory Celts with chariots
5 boxes Perry ACW
3 boxes Conquest Normans
10 boxes Perry WOTR & Agincourt
4 boxes Wargames Factory Zulus
2 boxes Gripping Beast & Wargames Factory Vikings and Saxons
3 boxes Fireforge Crusaders
1 box Perry Afrika Corps.
