Which is the 'best' RCW rule-set? I've been using Price of Glory (WWI rules) but it has some gaps that I think a different rule-set would fill better than adapting it. |

I've not played it but I have read good things about ToofatLardies Triumph of the Will. A friend of mine has his collection set-up for this rule set. toofatlardies.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=53 |

What size battles are you considering? For larger battles, Square Bashing from Peter Pig is worth considering. |

Triumph of the Will is a little ragged. If you're familiar with other TFL rules like IABSM or TW&T, you'll be fine. Or try the WWI variant for Chain of Command. My group has enjoyed The Perfect Captain's Red Actions (with a few house mods). We tried Price of Glory a few times but stayed with Red Actions. |

25/8mm Platoon sized skirmish (about 50 models) with options for vehicles, cavalry, artillery and personalities. If it plays multi player well that's a bonus. |

George, Given your parameters I'd go with Red Actions w/o hesitation. H |

I would look at the SCW supplement from Iron Ivan. There are a lot of rules for the Militias that adds to the randomness |

Contemptible Little Armies would work well for that size of game. |

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming please. @ Schogun: What put you off Price of Glory? It would be interesting to compare notes. |

Red actions is a very good time and a good simulation. And free. |

Where can I get hold of Red Actions? |
Schogun | 14 Oct 2015 4:50 a.m. PST |
The Perfect Captain link Red Actions link (Download button on right) Lots of other very good rules there, too. And all free! |

Red Actions is very popular and also note some 3rd party variants I mentioned in an earlier post: Mark Plant's revised rules, army lists and unit cards which aim for greater accuracy and larger battles involving command & control chains: link link A Danish club's house variant called "Red Actions, White Reactions" which has some major changes to mechanics to introduce WEGO simultaneous movement and Command Points instead of unit activation. AFAIK they can only be obtained from the Files section of the Perfect Captain Yahoo group which you have to join: link Another free set worth looking at is Reds vs Reds by Chris Peers which was written for a Kazan scenario played here by Mark Copplestone and Richard Barbrook:

Another vote for Red Actions…excellent rules. I'd also recommend Triumph of the Will from TFL, or tweaking Through the Mud and Blood. I believe there are some adaptations of Chain of Command floating around which would be interesting to look at. Triumph and Tragedy are worth having a look at too. |

Flames of War has rules for armored trains and cavalry. There is also a late Great War supplement that experimenters can graft them on to. |

That's a great idea for 15mm and I love FoW but I'm looking for options for single model per base 25mm games. |
