I wonder if anyone has photos of these miniatures. I believe Rif Raf is now producing the former FOA miniatures (I think most of the SCW vehicles went to Empress). Unfortunately there aren't any photos on the Rif Raf site. I am particularly interested in the 5th Regiment packs and some of the anarchist militia, some of which I think used to be advertised as from the Durruti Column (based on Bueno I am guessing). Thanks for any help you can provide, CA |

I have painted a handful of the FoA SCW gun crew, I'd say that they are not as nice as either the Northstar or Empress SCW figures, I cannot comment on the 5th Regiment or militia packs.
A few more pics in this blog article from last August link |

The sculptor was , I think, Paul Barnshaw, whose work in 20mm was some of the best in that size, but 28mm is another rung up the skill ladder, and technique that produces great results in 20mm will only translate to good in the larger size. |

Paul — thanks for the photo of the painted Nationalist artillery crew. I knew they would not be up to the standard of the the Empress sculpts. At least it looks like the will fit in terms of size. BTW, thanks for your blog as it has provided me with a lot of inspiration over the past few years. Henry — thanks the background on the FOA sculptor. Do you happen to know the 20mm lines he sculpted? |

Thanks, glad to be of service and inspiration :) If you are looking for good figures to use as 5th Regiment take a look at the Northstar International Brigade figures. I finished ten yesterday and they are lovely. |

Just a quick word from me on these. I do have some photos of other stuff, so emnail me at contactus@forceofarms.co.uk and I can send on. These figures where done by the late Paul Barnshaw. They were the first he'd done in this scale – as a full range and yes a leap into the unknown for him. I have a couple of separeate figures by him which it was intended would be other ranges an SS 44 pattern grenadier and a foot reiver. Both are wonderful as was his 20mm work. The figures are 15 years old now and techinques have moved on and no-ones first figures are as good as their latest. That said they fill gaps and paint up well. I would still say they are a useful addition to any late period inter-war collection bring a variety of uniform and range of poses still not available in many ranges. Sadly Paul succumbed to the effects a long illness before he really got going on these. All best John FoA PS And yes I too think Mr H's work is now really quite good. |

Paul, you did a great job on those Northstar Internacionales on the other thread. I have a couple of packs that are in a drawer since they just didn't look that great but you have done a terrific job that might just have me see what I can do. I do not, however, think they will work for the 5th Regiment who were supposed to be in a khaki mono and gorrilo side cap. John, thanks for the post… I will definitely drop you a note to see some of the photos! I am sorry to hear about Paul Barnshaw's passing. The range includes some units, types, and weapons teams that fill gaps in the Empress range. Thanks to everyone for the help! |

As I recall, Paul did a lot of WW2 figures for FAA/MLR(? Too many name changes). I know that, for instance, the Russian sailors were his work. |

The figures ranges are produced and owned by Burns Miniatures, and distributed on their behalf by Templar Wargames & Scenery and also Rif Raf Miniatures. There will be additions to this range by Burns Miniatures over the course of 2016. |
