Crossing the Main is the seventh scenario from Britton Publishers' latest project Fulda Gap. This one was played with modern GHQ forces. Thanks for looking. Ben

right…he's helping me play-test this 10 scenario campaign book. I want it to be generic enough that any set of rules will work. It should also be such that either side can win, depending upon the skill of the player and of course, the dice… ;) ben

Well, I don't have any skill, so I blame the dice! ;)

Ben – I don't want to ask, but I know you're typically the Russians; you weren't the Russkies in this one were you? I'll say this: whomever was the Russian commander had a rough time. The US had everything going: Javelins, rifle teams/squads with LAWs, Abrams, and then the Apache made its presence felt.

I'd volunteer that Captain Ovechkin needed more troops and vehicles; but then his comments to his loyal subaltern, Kosar, seemed to indicate he was aware of his force's deficiencies. Oh, and Comrade 'O' needed his own artillery to not bombard him too ;)

Regarding the write-up itself, fantastic! Obviously I'm a fan of the (what I call) 'narrative-style' write-ups. To me it's so much more fun and interesting to have characters you're following. I certainly enjoyed it!

The next step (if you didn't already do it) is to recognize those characters on the tabletop as you're playing. Often times I end up (when I can, at least) relegating heroes from previous fights to relative backwaters on later battlefields, as you don't want your hero to get gunned down/blown up.

And with less-than-stellar performers, I often penalize them in die-rolls, and I often get pretty high-risk with them. That is, I figure they may as well try to do something risky; they're either going to die or redeem themselves!

Great stuff, and can't wait for more! Oh, and forgive Kyote, he's old and slow, apparently not realizing the scenario overlap until fight number seven ;)

V/R,
Jack

Jack…I am sad to say, it was not my finest hour. I was drubbed by Roger. Now, having said that, I'd like to play it again. The road was not as concealing as Captain Ovechkin had hoped. The character thing is definitely a lot of fun. Ben

Thanks for sharing your report, Ben.

Good to see that some fun games can be had with a rather small number of troops.

No doubt, the Soviets will send in a bit larger force with their next echelon.
