We at Waugh Games have launched a new vehicle range, with the first ones for sale now on our website

We have started with German WWII and the first of the WWi range, all are priced very reasonably with some great offers

These models compare very well with Battlefront Models here is a comparison picture

Wow, those are indeed some good prices for 15mm! How do they scale compared to FOW or other 15mm offerings?

Look nice, and great prices, but I'd *really* recommend smaller cast-on bases for future releases – lots of people hate cast bases, but obviously they're a necessary evil for one-piece hulls to keep your cost and price down. The smaller and more unobtrusive they are, though, the less people will be turned off by them….

I'm seeing a lot of casting flaws on the masters photographed for the page – is the quality of the actual product better?

Mark RedLinePS08 Oct 2015 3:42 p.m. PST

I don't mind cast on bases as I base my 15mm vehicles anyway. But these seem all wrong, too small on the sdkfz 250/1 and way too big on the Opel Maultier. I really do believe they need more thought because it'll be a shame if the bases affect sales of the vehicles, which look fine.

yeah…those bases. to be clear, tho, i would'nt buy ANY pre based vehicles. i just don't like them…

What Dom said….I would pass based on the cast on bases….

Leadgend08 Oct 2015 10:59 p.m. PST

If you are going to do bases they should only extend a few mm from the ground contact areas of the model, ie as per the "panzer LV70". The others are either too big or too small.

Leadgend08 Oct 2015 11:37 p.m. PST

Also you might want to come up with a consistent SKU code system.

Not a fan of the large bases on the vehicles. Some of the scaling and details seem off. It would be a range I would not be interested in.

Kind of surprised at the amount of negativity here. I haven't pulled out any plans or anything, but the detailing doesn't strike me as bad or particularly off in the photos. I think a simple "burping" of the molds with a probe during casting would eliminate what some are talking about. Try rounding off the end of a brass rod or wire, maybe 3/32" diameter, and just rub it along the inside of the mold to release any bubbles (I'm guessing these are open gravity pours). It will eliminate 95 percent of them in about 3 seconds per casting.

I would also probably consider a "standard" overhang or surround for the bases, or consider a method that involves spanning the track on the underside, without having the base, maybe both to pacify both schools of thought.

Pricing seems pretty good.

I also do not like cast on bases. If I were to purchase any model with a cast base I would remove it before painting. This has turned me away from many of the FOW models.

Not sure that would actually fix everything, especially when you're dealing with undercuts. I've found you sometimes need vacuum to get it right, or at least a very flexible mold that you can clear the air bubbles out of – problem is that can shorten mold lifespan.

Honestly I do a lot of my own casting (small scale) at home, and the results photoed on the page would simply go straight in the rubbish bin and not be used had I cast them. Based on what I can see, the masters are clearly better, but the current casts are sub-par at best. If they were for personal use, that's one thing, but the OP wants to make this a business.

You can see several of my casts on my blog:

Well they look perfectly fine by me, as to bases well I tend to agree make them smaller- like that on the PZj 4.

I have no problem with bases myself as I base all my vehicles anyway. Good luck!

Mouse over the images and they'll automatically zoom. Then you'll see what the issues are.

bruntonboy09 Oct 2015 11:17 a.m. PST

Zoom? Done that and they seem on the whole good enough for me. Once panted and not examined by eye ball zoom I doubt there will be any issues. Besides which I've seen similar "flaws" in virtually every manufacturers models over the years- with the exception of Peter Pig who have so far never let me down.

I want wargames models that I can aford and look good enough at playing distance. Down with the tyranny of the close up lens!!

Bellbottom09 Oct 2015 12:47 p.m. PST

Not keen on based vehicles either. I look at it as:-
a. Easy to put one on a vehicle without one, and
b. Difficult to remove one from a vehicle with one (without damaging the model)
I prefer without every time

Who are you buying from??? I've never seen that level of issue from a professional manufacturer. When I've had my vacuum wrong or tried to cast on a very humid day I've had those problems, but I can assure you "every manufacturer" doesn't have this level of a problem.

Compare these issues:

To a Battlefront Panther (okay – I'm in the midst of converting it, but the resin is flawless by comparison)

Or stuff I cast myself:

Like I said, clearly the masters are really quite good – just the resin needs a lot of work yet…
