I wondered why they had not done something like this before. Now they "just" need to produce plastic Napoleonic artillery to do this for Napoleonics!

From their newsletter:

We are happy to announce Battle in a Box!
We have been keeping this under our hats for some time but we are getting close to the release now. As you can see this is a full box! It's a big box too! Everything in the box is plastic, figures and terrain (from Renedra Ltd).
Included in the box there is a new ACW multi-part General sprue (x2) made by Michael.
There's also a revised set of 'Firepower' rules by our good mate Alessio Cavatore included along with flags, bases, painting guide, 4 ft of fencing and the American farmhouse.
The box cover was by that talented artist Peter Dennis.
The whole box works out at about a third off our normal prices.
We'll keep you updated!

All the best
Alan and Michael

A War of the Roses set would do well also.

AWI please!

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh…. nothing new except the officer. Is the Union box set of Infantry near completion?

Nice way to encourage new players!

I think it makes sense to package boxed sets like this as it is an easy way for a gamer to get into a new period, especially if you are trying to recruit them from the fantasy/40K side of the hobby.

mossdocking08 Oct 2015 9:27 a.m. PST

Wonder if the rules will be available separately ?

waaslandwarrior08 Oct 2015 10:40 a.m. PST

That is a lot of figures for that price.
With a building and rules on top!

Straight winner I think.

I am not an ACW gamer myself, but this looks very good!

cavcrazy08 Oct 2015 1:30 p.m. PST

SWEET!

Even though 28mm figures aren't my thing, I have to admit that I find the battle box very exciting.

For roughly $120 USD I would buy a WOTR set. Hope it's in the works.

I am guessing everything is unpainted. If you want to get a person, who has never heard of miniature gameing, into the hobby, that person maybe in for a shock when he discovers he has to paint everything.

I am not clear who this product is aimed at. Experienced players who have a huge collection already, no. Newbie who has never played a miniature game in their lives but saw the shiny box and thought this would be fun, no.

The customer for this is an experienced player who games one or more other periods and this would be a great way to get into the ACW period. That he has to paint everything is no shock. In fact it is a pretty good deal.

Mmmm…two armies, flags, painting guides, bases, scenic items and rules all in one boxed package for under £100.00 GBP

Wonder why nobody has ever done this before?

All they need to do is expand the range to cover say Napoleonics, GNW, WSS, ECW, FPW, Ancients and maybe WW1 and that will really make people sit up and take notice!

Rudysnelson09 Oct 2015 6:02 p.m. PST

Very expensive and I wonder about the scale. 28mm large armies are no popular in my region.
Only WW2 sales are consistent at that scale.

News letter from Perry's today to announce the Battle in a box pre order. And if you order from them direct you get a special single miniature. So have my christmas present fixed for this year and with a Canadian winter around the corner plenty of time to do some painting.

I hope there is a Napoleonic and 100 Years War box coming, that would be good. This is actually excellent value when you think that there are 4 infantry units and to buy them they are 20 pounds each so for the extra 20 pounds you get two units of Cav, 4 artillery pieces and their crews, two Generals a building and fence lines, not to mention a rule book with painting guide and Flags I believe.

For me I think this is a bargain.

Fond memories of Airfix sets -Romans, Britons and a fort anyone???
Marvellous.

GoodOldRebel19 Oct 2015 2:27 p.m. PST

could prove very useful as reinforcements to boost an collection

Great idea and i can see my £'s going there. Probably only something you can only do when you have enough product to do artillery, cavalry and infantry for both sides, which is the case for their ACW stuff – using the above criteria, Wars of Roses period seems to be a good candidate for a future box and anything else, probably fairly way off.

Just thought I would add, that I am one of those new starters something like this appeals to . Yes It does work IMO with my own case being the proof. I am normally a WW2 gamer with some interest in Naps as well .

From my own point of view its great that everything is in the box even some scenery and some uniform guides. The only thing you could add is perhaps dice and a measuring tool.

Well done to the Perrys

This also a good way to introduce Warhammer/WH40K folks to historical gaming.

GW already offers similar sets for their own lines, with multi-part plastic figures, scenery, rules, etc all inckuded, so those from that system would make an easy transition to ACW gaming.

I see this very much as a win/win situation for the Perrys as well as gamers.
