…Drones Over Syria.

"Russian fighter jets have intercepted U.S. predator drones on at least three separate occasions high above Syria since the start of Russia's air campaign last week, according to two U.S. officials briefed on this latest intelligence from the region.

The Russians have not attempted to shoot down any of the U.S. drones, but instead have flown intercept tracks, a doctrinal term meaning the Russians flew close enough to make their presence felt, according to one official.

"The first time it happened, we thought the Russians got lucky. Then it happened two more times," said one official…"

Maybe Russia's way of telling the U.S. that if these drones approach Russian air bases …. they will be shot down. And if that happens …. here is an easy prediction …. the situation in the skies over Syria are going to change dramatically.

Leaving political motives to the side for a moment: if the US isn't giving Ivan the exact location of our Predators (and who would?), they may just be checking them out to make sure that they aren't insurgent drones or a Cessna 172. Plus a competent commander might want to give the lads a bit of live intercept practice for a number of internal personnel reasons. The Shirtless Tsar is quite capable of making overt threats when he feels the urge, I doubt he'd bother with subtlety (or waste it on amerikanskie).

To shoot down, arguably. Intercept? no, that's not.

Especially as the US drones are in Syrian air space.
