"The United States will not cooperate militarily with Russia in Syria because Moscow's strategy is "tragically flawed", U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Wednesday in his strongest comments yet on the issue.

However, the United States is willing to hold basic, technical discussions with the Russians to try to secure pilot safety.

"We are not prepared to cooperate in a strategy which as we explained is flawed, tragically flawed on Russia's part," Carter said during a trip to Rome, renewing U.S. accusations that Russia's strikes were not focused on Islamic State militants…"

"You don't play fair and I don't like you and you stink and your mother wears combat boots and I'm taking my ball AND I'M GOING HOME!"

America then stomps its foot and marches off in a huff.

More like we don't want to be seen as Putin's ally since we're at odds with him over a host of issues, not to mention the Ukraine.

Putin is willing to put troops on the ground to fight one of the most evil organisations this world has seen. Being part of the fight in alliance is better than being against what he is doing. All this was brought about with the fall of Sadam and the lies and spin around that and the subsequent lies and fighting. Its time to realise this and for the US , Britain and the other alliance states to end this the longer it goes on the more people die, the more children and raped, tortured murdered and traumatised, the more destruction this cult exacts, the more terrorist acts it can spread, the hate throughout the world it is causing, history has taught us that appeasing bullies never works, time to fight, hurrah for Putin, time for our politicians to listen to us before its too late and the fighting is in our streets and before it falls tour children to fight

I'm not saying we shouldn't join Putin in an unlikely alliance to fight ISIS, ahem, keep Assad in power, mind you. Just that it's not feasible for a variety of reasons, among which is the unfortunate fact that we see Russia as an "adversary" that's on the "wrong side of history."

I wish someone would put kyoteblue in the Dawg House every time he tries to get someone else thrown in.

Reminds me of the whiny kid at school "Sir, Sir, Martha just called Michael a rude name…punish her sir"

We fought with the Russians in WWII against a very bad man and group called Nazi. We supported a very bad man and a group called commies in that fight.

Syrian Dictator very bad. ISIS very bad.

Syrian Dictator like Stalin did very bad things. ISIS like the Austrian paper hanger and his folks did very bad things.

Soviet bad man not threat to us. Syrian bad man no threat to us.

Crazy Austrian paper hanger and crew a threat to everyone.
Crazy ISIS crew a threat to everyone.

Let's repeat history. Fight with some bad men to kill off the really bad men that threaten everyone.

No, not pure…but we held our nose once.

That's funny, Davoust.

However, the Deleted by Moderator aren't quite the world threat Hitler and the Nazis were during WWII just yet.

But I agree that removing Assad is a BAD idea, for the simple reason that it will result in the US creating yet another weak, spineless and corrupt government like the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

BobGrognard07 Oct 2015 10:07 p.m. PST

Looks to me like Putin is a better ally Deleted by Moderator. And there'll be plenty of heads of state around the world who think the same.

The arrogance of the west thinking that our system of multi party democracies is sooooo great it will suit everyone is foolish in the extreme. Not all nations have had their version of the enlightenment yet, let alone their industrial revolution. Some of them are better suited to different, less developed systems based on a single "strong man" who holds the nation together by whatever means.

To our western eyes this can appear unpleasant, look at Sadaam, Ghadaffi, Musharraf and co., but the alternative for their peoples is a power vacuum where all sorts of lunatics pop up, such as ISIS/ISIL. I bet the people of Iraq would give their eye teeth to have the stability of Saddam's day. Unlike Russia the west has more or less abandoned them, and the Afghans and Libyans, to their fate. Like him or loathe him, Putin is Deleted by Moderator doing what is best for Russia.

We'd be better off if we stonked the Deleted by Moderator well before they became as great a threat as the Austrian paper-hanger and his ideologues were.

Rabid dogs need to be put down to protect everyone and everything around them.

The problem is that we have the US, NATO, Turkey, Kurds, Iran, Russia, Assad, Daesh and a host of others all involved, all with their own political goals.

The US are trying to salvage their Iraqi frontmen, trying to oust anyone called Assad or Daesh. NATO is mostly on the same line though some would like to see Assad stay in power.
Turkey is trying its best to ignore Daesh, seeing them as potential patsies for long term gains, while trying to use NATO and everyone else to bomb the crap out of the Kurds. Russia is out to bomb anyone that isn't Assad. Iran is also backing Assad, while trying to keep a burgeoning civil uprising backed by Daesh inflitrators. The Kurds, after the Jezidi's are considered heretics of the worst kind and are a genocide target for Daesh. They have just enough equipment to keep Daesh out of their mountains. Assad is doing everything to survive including buying oil from Daesh sources. Meanwhile Daesh is holding large areas of Syria and iraq, who pretend they are still in control and keep sending money and goods into the territories to pay officials and keep the population from starving. Daesh take their cut and leave the officials mostly unharmed because they have a ton of fanatic soldiers, but little in terms of administrative material. They plan to murder just about everyone once things settle down and they have time to put their people in charge of things once and for all.

Confused ? If somebody wrote this as a fiction they would be laughed out of town.

What about the old time proven: the enemy of my enemy is my friend albeit temporarily.

Great War Ace08 Oct 2015 8:21 a.m. PST

It should be the USA and the Russians. Like we've done together before to bring down an even more dangerous evil than either of us.

Well given that nearly everyone in the area are our enemies, and they are all enemies of each other, then everyone there is our friend. Yay!!!!

That's a tragedy, because it's gotta be one of my favorite pieces of slang on this forum…and SO appropriate for ISIS too.

Does that mean that on TMP, we have to show ISIS respect?"

I hope not … What we are going to offend Daesh ?! Or their Islamic sympathizers ? Doubt there are any of those or even moslems in general on TMP …
