"Russia's Sukhoi jets flew 15 sorties over Syria on Monday striking 10 Islamic State targets in various regions, according to Russia's Defense Ministry. 20 tanks and 3 rocket launchers in Homs province near embattled Palmyra were destroyed,
"During the day, Sukhoi-34, Sukhoi-24M and Sukhoi-25 warplanes flew a total of 15 sorties from the Khmeimim airbase. Air strikes were delivered at ten targets of the Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL] group in Syria," Igor Konashenkov, Russia's Defense Ministry spokesman said in a statement on Monday.

A pair of Su-25Ms (NATO reporting name: Frogfoot) together with an Su-24 (NATO reporting name: Fencer) carried out strikes on two IS targets in the eastern part of Homs province near the city of Tadmur, he said…"

Makes you wonder how they can be much more effective than the US in destroying ISIS. That is probably more tanks than we have destroyed in the last year.

Claiming to have knocked out tanks doesn't mean that they are actually knocked out. Russia is hitting more non-ISIS targets than actual ISIS targets.

Claiming to have knocked out tanks doesn't mean that they are actually knocked out.

Yes, Bomb Hit Assessment (pilot says "all bombs good effects, all targets destroyed") != to Bomb Damage Assessment (after the smoke clears, ground observers note all bombs were near-misses and tanks remain operational).

Russia is hitting more non-ISIS targets than actual ISIS targets.

From what I understand, the bulk of Russia's non-ISIS strikes have been in the north. Here's an article about northern rebel groups from March of this year:

US Syria policy in tatters after favoured 'moderate' rebels disband ( link )

President Barack Obama's critics look likely to seize on the fate of Hazm to urge an abandonment of support for rebels in the north, now dominated by JAN and by Ahrar al-Sham, which is also beyond the pale as far as the US is concerned. "It makes US options for the north more limited than ever," said Abdeh.

and one from July:
The U.S. Discovers That There Is No "Moderate" Syrian Opposition ( link )

So, yeah….why are we suddenly worried about who get's bombed up there?

Who can trust any numbers about anything coming out of the region ? Let alone what the Russians report/say … anytime ? But if true … that is a good BDA … 20 tanks. Has the US Coalition KO'd that many after all the time it's been flying missions ? I'd hope so ! I'd think so !?

Maybe were can recover our blown up tanks? I.e., ones stolen from our pathetic Iraqi army. Might be some salvageable spare parts

Its the great conundrum of our time the Russians are bombing the moderates but there are no moderates.

I see the arming and training the moderates programme has been deemed a failure. Not suprising if there are none.

Are AQ destined to become the new moderates?

According to link Centcom says that between 8/8/2014 and 1/7/2015 1,600 airstrike missions destroyed or damaged:

184 Humvees
58 tanks
26 MRAPs/APCs
nearly 700 other vehicles
79 artillery and mortar positions
673 infantry fighting positions were destroyed
980 ISIS buildings and barracks
92 checkpoints
23 munitions caches
52 bunkers
14 small boats

As Legion 4 noted best to question this and Russia's claims. That said, the US coalition is pretty high up on the ISIS stuff destroyed leaderboard. Shame it is our own stuff we destroyed.

Apparently there is now an enquiry into Toyota Gate.
