Hi all, what markers, extra figures, bits, etc. are needed to play Frostgrave? I hope to get the rules soon but have a little spare time this week to do some physical prep.

Effect markers? Wandering monsters? Magic walls? Treasure markers? Specific terrain items such as statues or perhaps fountains? Blast templates or other area effect templates?

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Looking forward to seeing how badly I can roll with a d20. Thanks!

I also saw someone selling plastic spell-effect markers recently but I can't remember the name.

Anyway, apart from your warbands you will need several treasure tokens. Spell effect markers are not strictly necessary and creatures can be proxied using whatever you have at hand.

Small terrain items like fountains and pillars to block line-of-sight are always good to have.

You will need a lot of terrain, because the game has a lot to do with dodging in and out of line-of-site. Multilevel terrain is great too, as it allows for the game to take on an almost 3-dimensional aspect.
And, as was mentioned, treasure tokens, and assorted wandering monsters.

There is a scenario that features a fountain as the primary objective. Similarly there are scenarios that require six statues and six columns respectively. I bought 3" cake pillars to turn into columns at Michael's (if you don't have a Michael's near you, any arts & crafts store will do: they were in cake decorating). A mausoleum or other funerary structure.

At the moment I'm using glass beads for treasure tokens: fancy ones can wait. (The current Nickstarter will give me three once it ships.)

As for specific monsters in scenarios, skeletons for the mausoleum scenario, a giant worm, a genie (or large demon).

As the others pointed out, use lots of terrain. Even the author encourages this in the rules.

Wandering creatures.

They don't always have to be ones that can kill you.

Okay even a wandering herd of Bison is still likely to kill you but they are different.

Spiders, Lions, Tigers, Apes, Trolls, many of these can be gotten cheaply from Dollar stores okay maybe not the Trolls.

Oh and lots and lots of terrain.

Oh and if you have other miniatures like Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Undead, Cultists etc…

You can have them moving around the board as well.

Have you looked at the Frostgrave forum on Lead Adventure ? There's plenty of ideas and inspiration as far as terrain goes.
For wandering monsters, just use whatever fantasy creatures you have. A good start would be some skeletons, zombies, ghouls, giant rats, giant spiders, bears, wolves, trolls.

A perfect score on the TMP answering scale! Thanks so much for the information and insights.
Pedrobear: That list from BGG has been printed and we will see how much progress can be made before next Friday- our scheduled first game.
Thanks again everyone!
