Not a straight 48 hours, of course. I did the basic shaping and sanding yesterday in about 2 hours, then painted them up today, in about another two hours or so. In the picture there's about 100 buildings, and I have another 20 already done, and there's another dozen or so that still need to be painted up. I think that these will go a long way towards getting my 3mm set-up where I want it to be. The more terrain the better with the smaller scales. Anyways, these should give me enough to cover any sized or scale set-up I'm likely to need in the immediate future. A twenty-bulding village/town is pretty impressive, and if I'm doing something like Grande Armee I'll have more than enough to dot the map with small 5-10 building villages. Tomorrow I'll get some pictures up of a complete lay-out. I'm also hoping to get a video how-to on making the buildings up as well- they're a lot easier to do than they look at first. They're a lot easier and definitely more rewarding than the thumb-tack trees were. Those have definitely taken a back seat to electrical tape-trees of late, although they do still have their uses. I just took an exam I had to study for pretty intensely, so I have a few stored-up ideas I want to try out and then post about.

Nice – good "old school" feel to them

I like them. I bought a bunch of "Monopoly" buildings for doing a city design and I think I will paint them exactly the same as you have here.

Nice stuff, that looks like a town!

Those look really great!

Thanks for sharing your photo.

Very nice. If you don't mind me asking, what are the dimensions of a building?
Thanks,
Dale

I think it is very nice. But I'd like to see a little color variation in the balance of your buildings. A bit too uniform right now, even in this small scale, for my tastes. Just a thought.

Hi all,

Glad you guys liked them! They're a lot of fun, and a lot of return for the effort, really.

The buildings are made from 1" x 1/2" balsa wood rods, or 1/2" x 1/5" rods. The bigger buildings are the rectangles. I simply cut the length of the building I want, then chop the rod off at the pitch I want. I'm still going to do a video, but I haven't got around to it yet! Tomorrow I'll reveal all the tricks.

Early morning writer- I agree. My earlier buildings on my blog are more varied, and the ones I have left to do will be a bit more varied as well. The buildings above are actually two different colors, "vanilla" and a light gray. The lighting is bad and thats one reason they all look similar, although I let the grey and white mix somewhat as I painted, so that may be one issue. Some dark blue/grey "slate" roofs might also work well- like I said I already have some like that, I just need to make a few more.

I meant 1/2" x 1/2" inch in the above! Squares and rectangles, basically.

Here you go!
I'm going to post a video how-to on these guys today/tonight that'll go over the finer points of making them. I've been meaning to do so all week as a few people have asked about them, but now I'm actually going to do it.

For real.

Ok, the balsa wood house how-to is up on my blog! I hope it answers any questions about how I went about making these guys anyone may have had.

Forwardmarch, drop me an email? I'm on a similar project…off and on…and might have some ideas to share or may want to pick your brain. bob spruster at yahoo dot com
Thanks,
Bob
