Not sure if anything is going on locally, but a B-25 just overflew our town just south of Harrisburg, PA and turned, landing gear down, toward the Capitol City airport across the river. I'll have to check the local Events calendar. Ok, here's what it probably is in relation to: link |

I was in Niagara-on-the-lake on Sunday Sept 27th this year and got to see Canada's Lancaster Bomber fly over head. It was returning from it's tour in the UK, what a incredible sight it was. |

Says on the news it is an exhibit at the Capitol City airport. It will be there until Wednesday. There is a charge to see them but they are saying you can actually climb into the planes. |

Well, we just had an airshow this last weekend. Among the featured flying aircraft were a B-17 and B-25. Though I'm not sure they flew all the way to PA from CA today. |

You don't need to worry unless it starts to line up for a bomb run. |

There's a B-25 hangered about 5 miles from my house, so it's not unusual to see it flying around the area, especially before Memorial day and the 4th.Two-three times a year a few little friends practicing their formation flying show themselves as well. |

They were here in Westchester County, NY last weekend. I missed them this year. I did go last year and we were able to walk through a B-17 and a B-24. I don't recall a B-25 last year although it may have been flying at the time I went. |

I went to see it this afternoon. They have it set up so that you can climb in through the back of the B24 and go through the side gun station and exit through the bomb bay area. It was great. |

Some few years ago near Leesburg,VA,heard engines approaching, assumed it was one of the big choppers going to Camp David, not unusual, but it just kept getting louder and louder. I ran out of the house in time to see a B 24 fly right over the house at not much more than treetop level, escorted by a Mustang, CAF on the way to Frederick MD airport. Heart-stopping sight, and sound. Not since I was a kid… What must a Flight of them have been like? |

I have flown in both the Collings Foundation's B-17 and B-24. It is an amazing experience. I highly recommend it for any WW2 history buff. You will be very impressed by how SMALL those bombers are. Giants of the air in their own time, to be sure, but SO much smaller than an airliner of today -- even most regional airline turbo-props. Did a bombing run (just the fly-over, nothing dropped) on the USS Iowa while it was berthed with the mothball fleet near Benicia. As big as the BB was, from a few thousand feet it seemed to be a pretty small target, even tied up and standing still. Hard to imagine that the B-17's original role was envisioned to be bombing battleships under way from 20,000 feet. I've posted pics from my flights in other threads on this topic. Certainly memorable events, and for a once-in-a-lifetime experience well worth the few hundred $$'s. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |
