…In Syria?.

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel wants to avoid an adversarial relationship with Moscow and is unsure how Russia's recent military intervention in Syria will affect the situation there.

Netanyahu, in an interview recorded for broadcast on Sunday on "CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS," did not join the United States and other NATO nations in criticizing Russia's taking military action in Syria.

Russia has said it is only targeting Islamic State militants, but other countries including Britain have said the focus of its attacks has been other rebel groups fighting to oust President Bashar al-Assad, Moscow's ally.

"We don't want to go back to the days when, you know, Russia and Israel were in an adversarial position," said Netanyahu, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow late last month. "I think we've changed the relationship. And it's, on the whole, good."…"

As Israel is being ignored by the US as an ally, it stands to reason that she will look to improve relations with Russia as potential partner or, at least, as sympathetic ear that would help to broke an understanding between Assad' Syria and Israel, if not a permanent peace treaty.

There's also the awkward fact that Israel can do exactly nothing about it, so can merely make the best of a bad job.

Yea, but you can bet Netanyahu is going to be hopping mad over the Hezzies getting a battalion of Russian tanks, if reports about that are accurate.

Oh Bugger05 Oct 2015 2:45 a.m. PST

He will be but he has some ground to make up after Israel treated ISIS fighters and launched incursions against the Syrian Army.

Unlike advanced missiles, a battalion of tanks for Hezbollah is not much threat to Israel. Tank guns don't have the range to hit Dimona or Eilat, and the vehicles wouldn't last long in an open fight with the IDF. They will, however, reinforce the Hezbos' domination of Lebanon. I hear the US is shipping another load of arms to the Lebanese Army.

Saying that Israel "doesn't want an adversarial relationship" with Russia isn't the same as "supporting" the intervention.

Just like after the Vietnam War, there is no appetite for foreign intervention. America is in a state of war weariness and disentanglement. The "people" have spoken.

Well – Corporations ARE people I suppose.

Kyoteblue,

Fear of the DH keeps me from elaborating on the subject of American leadership.

basileus6606 Oct 2015 12:52 p.m. PST

I think that the US is exhausted. She has been at war since 2001. Billions of dollars have been spent. Thousands of soldiers have been killed or wounded. And there is not much to show after all those sacrificies. Does anyone wonder why the Americans are war-weary?

Agree with you Antonio.
