Well we have now fought the Battle of Whalley (April, 1643) two times. One of our players (Murdock) has posted photo-filled accounts of BOTH battles. First Battle -- link
Second Battle -- link
One of our other players (Rob) posted his accounts here: link Both games were with 28mm figures on a 5' x 8' tabletop. We used the "Warr Without an Enemie" rules available from the Wyre Forest Wargames Club: wfgamers.org.uk/WWAE.htm

Interesting battle Jeff! Looks like the rules take a bit of getting used to, but do you recommend them for the smaller ECW battles? |

"Cross-gaming" has been our biggest problem. That is inadvertently using game mechanisms from prior rule sets. We have played them three times now and have gotten better with them each time . . . and we plan on using them some more. In fairness I should point out that I merely hosted the games and did not play because the chemotherapy that I am going through leaves me with too little stamina to play . . . not to mention the "mind fog" that accompanies the chemo. There are lots of things we like about these rules but it does take some time to get past the 'cross-gaming' that seems inevitable when learning a new set of rules that work a bit differently than what we have played before. All of that being said, there are lots of aspects of these rules that the guys really like . . . and we will be playing them again. I would suggest that anyone curious start by looking at the Wyre Forest Wargames Club website. Particularly look over the half-dozen scenarios that they've posted . . . all of the which are drawn from the excellent Partizan Press ECW Scenario Books.
