In preparation for playtesting the fantastic (on many levels) forthcoming G&G supplement, 'Foul Winds' (working title), I have been putting together a lace-pulp flying flotilla for the king of Spain.

Check out the full post here (with more scale comparisons) – link

I'm very happy with my new Spanish fleet and I'm super excited about getting the playtesting started. I'll not give away two much now, but the supplement will have advanced flying rules, magic, and more to let you add lace-pulp elements to your historical fleets, or lead your navies across, under and above dangerous seas in your preferred high fantasy setting.

Looking forward to seeing this, I've been collecting WizKids ships (somehow went from 0 to about 150 in a month…thanks!) and I'm particularly interested in ways to give a bit more variety to ghost/undead/voodoo ships, and ways to give the mortals a fighting chance against them.

So things like near-invulnerable ghost ships (at least to cannons), spectral ships that can ignore terrain, immortal ships that keep returning, fearsome spectral crews (and human crews tough enough to not fear them), holy relics, fear-inducing ships, ensorcelled crews, sorcerers, voodoo queens, spells of attack and defence, and more (I have a long list of stuff cribbed from the Wizkids ships).

Sounds like the supplement will have a lot of that, but hopefully there will be some more to separate out the weird from the normal. A lot of the above could be done with existing traits, but the undead ships wouldn't really be different than just scary pirate ships.

Cheers boy wundyr, some of those suggestions will certainly be appearing in the supplement – at present there will be five schools of magic included, each with their own unique spells (pyromancy, terraforming, hydromancy, windwhisperers and… voodoo). There will be inquisitors available to counter magic users, and spectral ships will also make an appearance.

Excellent!

This supplement isn't for me, but I'm pleased you are doing expansions. Was there any movement on the ancients one mentioned at some point, and do you plan to do one for Napoleonics and later? Mechanics for cannonades would be most welcome. Ironclads?

Hi Muerto – The expanded set of rosters for ancient ships using the core G&G rules are available free via the Ganesha website. link

I have no immediate plans for a later period supplement, but over at the Wargaming Raft blog, Frank Shandy has been working on modding G&G for American Civil War riverine actions. link
