Hi guys, travelling to San Diego for two weeks and wondering where the best FoW shops are? Would be fantastic if TY gets released while I'm over there since gaming shops are a little thin on the ground in Oman i.e. there aren't any!

Mako1101 Oct 2015 3:15 a.m. PST

Not sure, but it appears Nov. is the new release date for TY, so if you're visiting in Oct., you may be a bit early.

Damn, I guess its for the best. Would have been frustrating having the rules but not being able to geek out!

Check out Game Towne in Old Town, or call them first.

Thanks punkrabbitt, I'll look them up.

8 miles from my hotel, totally doable! Thanks.

Gunny B01 Oct 2015 5:57 a.m. PST

Umm, they've closed down according to a few websites!

Not sure about FOW, but you'll be real close to Brookhurst hobbies. It is a must visit in the area.

The only Brookhurst hobbies I can find is near LA 90 miles away, not that desperate for my geek fix! :-)

Brookhurst is about an hour and a half away. I know Gane Towne had closed their Parkway Plaza and Carlsbad locations, but the Old Town location was still open the last time I was visiting the family. Two years ago maybe?

EDIT: I just called the store and got a recording that the property was for sale. I am going to guess that the owner inherited the family winery and moved on to that. Bit of a bummer, Gane Town had been around since I was a kid.

Brookhurst is just a couple miles from Disney, good excuse to go to both!

Brookhurst is WORTH the geek fix!!!

Besides, it is close to The House of the Mouse!

Yes, Game Towne in Old Town closed down earlier this year. Your best bets are At Ease Games on Miramar and Pair-a-Dice up in Vista. At Ease dropped their single blister FOW line and just have the plastic kits, but they have a lot. Pair-a-Dice probably have the best selection here in San Diego now.

The FOW gaming scene has really died off here lately so a lot of the shops stopped carrying it.

Side note, Miramar air show this weekend if you are around.

Game Towne in Carlsbad was such a great store back in the day…

Col Durnford01 Oct 2015 11:27 a.m. PST

Don't fear the drive, it's well worth it. Last time I was in LA is was in the north and it was about the same time. It's an always go to shop. It is one of the last world class shops left.

The first time was when we took our daughter to Mecca (Disney) and I wanted to make a side trip. That one side trip turned into three visits.

Quick note.
Brookhurst is a great store on the west coast. Also, HMGS-PSW is running their historical convention this October on the 9th and 10th near to Brookhurst.

HMGS-PSW link for info: link

Normally I go to the HMGS-PSW convention but alass… conscripted into a friend's wedding up in the mountains far away.

Yep, I agree with the others, Brookhurst IS definitely worth the drive, if you can make it.

You can spend hours, and hundreds or thousands of dollars there, easily.

If you go, block out a good chunk of time, e.g. at least a couple of hours, and perhaps four, or so.

Since the closure of some of the other stores on the West Coast, as far as I know, it is probably the best military hobby and gaming venue in the Western states.

Me too I'll make it in the morning though……

Does Game Empire on Clairemont Mesa Blvd carry it?

Is it still open?

I MISS San Diego…a lot.

Gunny B13 Oct 2015 11:30 a.m. PST

Thanks for the all info guys but it transpires that gaming and such related activities didn't get anywhere near the top of the priorities list. Double Deuce, Hooters and Cake kinda won out, by a long, long way!!
