The first big wargame I played at a convention was a game called, as far as I can recall, "Warcry and Battlelust". The game was a big weird blast to play, a mishmash of historical & fantasy miniatures on a huge table.

I was about 13 years old, I think.

I'd love to track down a copy of the rules set, but I've found very little about it online other than a mention of one "Dave Petrowski" being involved with it.

Does anyone here have any info about the game they can share?

Is this it, by chance?

@Greylegion – I don't think so, that looks too new. The game I'm looking for would be nearly 30 years old.

@Highland Guerilla – I'd love to know more about the game. Hoe does it play?

Can you provide a photo of the book?

Cool – thanks for the heads-up Bill! I always forget to check Noble Knight…

Outside of buying to add to the collection, I'd say why not look into a modern set such as Lion Rampant.
$11 USD is cheap enough to drop on it and see if it still scratches your itch, though.
You might want to jump on it unless HighlandcGorilla offers you a better price…

I bought it as an alternative to "Swords and Spells" and "Chainmail" back in the day. My memory of it is that it is very old school, not element based. Charts and dice modifiers, nothing special. Definitely a do-it-yourself thing.

I'd also suggest getting something with fresher mechanics – Sword and Spear is coming out with a fantasy expansion soon, aren't they?

Battlelust by Columbia games was based on their Harn role playing system. Inovative with a fantastic melee system a great system for its time though may not meet modern standards for elegance (though quite elegant for its time).

The skirmish system may take a bit of work but is much superior to Lion Rampart. Worth a look but could use a modern make over.

I played Warcry and Battlelust a few times. Still have the rules somewhere around here. Moved on to other sets. I think I went to Legion next by FIG.

Thanks,

John

Interesting comment ThomasThomas… Maybe I should get the book and take a look. How does it compare to Warhammer Fantasy(2nd Ed)?

Alxbates03 Oct 2015 9:11 p.m. PST

I don't have any serious intention of playing it, I'd just like to track it down to add to the collection.
