The lord of the Rings wiki claims him to be 7'4" tall. I figured something different. See here. link |

He's as tall as a large fierce bear. |

Possibly, as a magically shapeshifting being, he does not have a fixed height. |

I saw him at Walmart today and he has to be easily over 9' tall. |

The original sources, which are available for all of us to read, are somewhat vague. As Winstons says, as big as a large angry bear. Or maybe bigger. or not. One and a half Bree fathoms. |

Well, in bear form he was "almost giant sized". Treebeard is a 14 foot giant. So 12-13 feet in bear form? The stone giants were really vague and appeared just once in all the books so no idea how tall they were. |

he is as tall as his anger requires him to be. |

To a Hobbit, anything bigger than 4 feet is huge! |

Allow me to paraphrase Brian Jaques: Beorn is exactly as big as he needs to be. |

Greater men in Middle-earth – te decendents of the Numenorens regularly hit the 2m tall spot. I'd assume Elendil (as in Elendil the tall) to be the best part of seven feet (to go imperial, measurements wise). Noldor elves, of course, are of a similar stamp. My guess is – if he's meant to be notably large – is that Beorn – in man form – is in the 7 to 8 feet tall range. In bear form, I'd say taller and much bigger overall. 10 – 12 feet and hairy?
