So just what figures should be used? Its time of plate reenforced mail?

I know of sevral lines of pur5e fudal ranges like curteys. But those are a few dacades to early?

scheltrum.co.uk 's medieval Scots scheltrum.co.uk/me282.html are good but unfortunately the catalog lacks pictures.

They are bad with their site but the miniatures are first class and they are still in operation.

Infantry…Claymore if you don't mind the jackets (arguably) being a little bit short. They are marketed for Otterburn but are fine. Foundry early HYW kit (in fact most early HYW) is fine. You need armoured (padded jacks/helmets/armoured gloves)spearmen, men-at-arms (full mail, a little plate, barded horses) and longbowmen…nothing else.
Avoid anything labelled as 'Braveheart' 'Highlanders' and unarmoured types. manufacturers love them but they don't fit the history side of things…which is kind of important.
You will struggle to find dismounted men-at-arms that are armed with long spears and Essex have some very suitable mounted men-at-arms, though best to avoid those without lances.
You might want to try (ahem, koff kdff) Chris Brown's 'Bannockburn 1314' and 'Knights of the Scottish Wars of Independence'. You really should avoid anything inspired by Gardiner and Oman – such as Nusbacher – and the awful new Bannockburn centre…it's pants. Definitely read Thomas Grey's 'Scalacronica'.
Thing to remember is that Scottish troops looked exactly like English ones

I also mixed in some of the Mirliton communal infantry packs. Unlike some of their other ranges (which are more close to true 25mm), the communal infantry are large and mix well with other 28mm figure lines. They have quite a few poses with spear and they are very nice figures.

Claymore are doing some earlier stuff, marketed as early Hundred Years' War, which might prove even more helpful grin

uglyfatbloke28 Sep 2015 9:37 a.m. PST

Have n't seen that yet – better go and have a shufti!
Edit – just had a look; nothing very useful this time (which is very unusual for Claymore) apart from the dismounted knights with spears (yippee!), but they are maybe a little 'late' for you if you're picky, though they'd certainly be fine for the second round of the WofI from 1332 -1357. Personally I would (and will) have a few to ad to the general mix of my close-combat infantry.

Why not drop them a line, ufg, and see if they're up for some even earlier stuff wink

Sholto of Scheltrum Miniatures is a real technophobe but he is still producing excllent figures. Send him an email and have a look at the Aberdeen wargames Club site where most of the figures for the Harlaw refight a couple of years ago were from his range. Lots of photos.

So the good people in this thread says most claymore figures are close enough? Even the Scottish pike?

majormike6930 Sep 2015 3:07 a.m. PST

I bought into the Scheltrum range when they came out and really wanted to love them. But while some figures are quite good others are practially unfinished.

Can i get a yay or ney on claymore pikes for thus period?

uglyfatbloke05 Oct 2015 4:45 a.m. PST

Yes, Claymore pikes, and really any early HYW figures. The Ebob pike figures are OK – maybe a little small compared to others, but the 'Braveheart' ones are just useless of course. Sholto is a lovely chap, but the figures are n't really suitable for your project.
