Calm down Winston… Is there some problem with putting the full complement in the boat, and duplicating their costumes and poses? I would pay for it. I don't see the Scotsman, the African American, the woman, the dude puking over the side, the backwoodsman, Monroe holding the flag at the proper angle, the polesmen poling at the right angle… Just a group (and a small one) in generic AWI costumes. I want the full Leutze allegorical grouping, and if it is "historically inaccurate", tough beans. That's what I want, and that's what I will pay for. Eureka? Perry? Fife and Drum? |

AMERICA We always put the kid who flunked physics 101 at the front of the boat…… |

I don't think he's rowing. I think the kid is deflecting ice floes. |

He's pushing against one directly in front. For every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action. Just sayin'…… |

Oops, poorly worded and incomplete sentence. Ahem- See "Washington's Crossing" the book,on the accuracy,or otherwise, of "Washington Crossing the Delaware" the painting. |

Yes. The painting is a revolutionary allegory, done in response to the revolutions of 1848. It's radical propaganda. So what? That is what I want and that is what I will pay for. |

I never noticed this before, but isn't Washington carrying a mamluk sword, and not the small sword an officer of those times carried? |

I wouldn't be surprised. Leutze painted this more than 70 years afterwards, and it is s revolutionary propaganda painting. It's still an iconic piece, even if it has "slight" inaccuracies. I want it as a display piece, useable as a gaming piece of course. |
