I just received a large order from Old Glory 15s that included some of the R&F 19th-Century figures. Here are some brief thoughts on what I received:

Bulgarian Legion Infantry Defending. These look great! The figures are crisp and clean. The sculpting is very good with details well defined. Standards are modeled as part of the flag staff. Of the R&F infantry figures I have seen and just received I think these are the best. If they came in three of four poses, I would rank them right with the OG 19th-century figs.

Rumanian Regular Infantry/Russian Infantry Advancing in Kepi and Tunic. The figures I received are the same for both countries. Decent one pose figures. I have seen these before in some pics and they will look good painted up.

Russian Infantry in Greatcoat and Kepi Advancing. Not a big fan of these. I was hoping that the figs I just mentioned above would basically be the same, but in greatcoat. Totally different sculpts, however. These are very similar to other R&F figures advancing. The pose is kind of a port arms and turned slightly sideways. I have noticed quite a few of R&F figures advancing in this same pose. The other negative about this pack is that about 40% of the pack are in greatcoat with hood up over the kepi, advancing. Actually these are better sculpted figures, sculpted is more 3D, like the Bulgarians mentioned above. I may see if OG will take these packs back and let me trade for more of the Rumanian/Russians in Kepi or the Bulgarians.

Rumanian Krupps artillery and Russian Horse and Foot Artillery 1877. The figures are in the standard R&F artillery poses and are very similar in equipment. The guns for both packs are the same as those that come with the OG Prussian Artillery for 1870. The other thing about R&F artillery crews is that they come with sprues of different equipment for the figures to hold in their hands, such as swords, rammers etc that you have to glue to the fig. Not really a fan of gluing on weapons/equipment in 15mm, although if I can do it well it will provide crews of great variety. Many of these figs also come in the slightly-turned-sideways pose similar to the infantry advancing pose. Something about that pose just looks unnatural and flat to me.

Russian Cossack Cavalry 1877-78. These are well-sculpted and are very sturdy. Lances are sturdy without appearing too thick. I like these a lot. Like all R&F cavalry packs they do not come with command.

Russian Cavalry, Kepi, Rifle and Sword 1877-78. These are similar in sculpting quality to the Russian Infantry in Kepi and Tunic Advancing. Pretty good in other words. Very serviceable but not great.

Russian Dragoon in Furashka, 1877-78. Quality similar to the previous Russian figures in Kepi. These are holding the carbine.

Russian Hussar in Furashka, 1877-78. Look very similar to the Dragoons except they are holding their sword aloft. I like these a lot. Just the one pose but it is a good one.

Ottoman Turk Cavalry Western Uniform in Kalpack. These look very similar to the Cossacks mentioned above except they are armed with sword and carbine. I think you could use these as Cossacks, too. I like them.

Rumanian Rosiori or Kalarshi Cavalry. These are in a fur cap similar to the Cossacks/Turks, but the sculpt is different, with the figures holding the sword upright close to right side of body. The hand holding the sword hilt is resting on the right hip. These figures look pretty good but not great.

Overall, I was satisfied with what I got. The only unwelcome surprise was the pack of Russian Infantry in Greatcoat and Kepi Advancing. Not a fan of the pose or the fact that almost half the pack was a different pose in greatcoat with hood up.

These will definitely fit the role I have set aside for them in my fictional 19th-century campaign.

The Rank and File FPW figures that I've got recently do require a fair bit of preparation before painting. There are also some strange anomalies. For example, the Bavarian infantry musicians are a good head taller than the officer and much more solidly built, leading me to wonder if these are OG guys mixed in with the Rank and File.

Thanks for the descriptions!

I like that range. Not that many folks seem to game 1877. I have armies for both sides. Both are partially done. I use some other ranges mixed in with my R&F ones.

Thanks,

John
