Last Saturday I played my first ever game of DBA with fellow gaming friend, Jaye Wiley. I don't imagine we'll do much of this in the future with our group (as we like lots and lots of minis on the table), however I found it to be a fun, easy set of rules I can play with one of the girls at home. jonscurioclashes.blogspot.com |

Those are some brilliant looking 15s! I have been thinking of giving DBA a whirl but I am loving the whole not measuring aspect of To The Strongest so much. Side note, glad to see another resident Missouri gamer on these boards. Hopefully the Tigers put up a bit of a better showing against Kentucky next week. If there is one thing you can count on for Mizzou football it is having at least one painfully close non-conference game. |

Magister, Haha, you are very correct on Gary and the Tigers; they love to play to the level of their competition. What part of the state are you in? To The Strongest has become our game of choice for ancients (and a few other periods as well). |

Once you get used to the rules you can try large battle DBA where each commander has three armies . This gives you 36 bases of troops and unlike the more structured single army DBA the units can be combined into various units This will give you the mass effect you are looking for and a result in a gaming session |

Or you can always scale up the size of the elements. I've seen online people who take bases for 25mm troops and mount 6mm figures on them. You get an impressive mass effect visually there. But it is good to enjoy the game for what it is as well. |

Lovely! If you want to do historical battles… I will be publishing later this year "Great Battles of History for DBA 3.0". It will contain battle scenarios for battles ranging from ancient Greece and Rome to the late Medieval. Most will fit into the big battle dba format (triple sized games), but some scenarios are smaller (and a few larger). You may need a few extra elements in some as well… (egads, 5 elephants in one command in a particular scenario… and elephants in DBA 3 are scary!) but most will be in reach of the average gamer. Ditto to those who have said you can play bigger battles than 12 elements on the side with DBA. Our group has done giant battles with the five armies on a side in 25 mm and 15 mm. We don't follow the big battle dice allocation process but rather with regular armies, Roman, Macedonian and such, we let the commander-in-chief throw as many dice as there are players and allocate them to the players as he sees fit. For irregular enemies, barbarians, Britain, Gauls, Germans in such, each commander throws his own dice. Also with regular enemies will allow the armies to be organized into whatever function types the commander wants, heavy troops in the center, lights in the front, cavalry on the flank, but the Irregular armies stay in standard army groups. Great fun and easy to play with large numbers of people. In that collection of battles that Joe mentioned, my friend Charlie and I have one that is a standard 12 element game but with a specific scenario. You don't have to follow the just line them up and fight them procedure. |

And a good scenario it is Bob! Joe Collins |

I'm in St. Louis and I currently play with just a few buddies and we've absolutely loved to the strongest. I've been thinking of joining the big group in my area, but whats held me back is fear of having to rebase all my armies again if WAB or DBA are their adopted rule sets. |

Big Battle DBA is an under appreciated games. The little 12 element games appeal to the tournament circle but have overshaddowed the actually better version of DBA incorperated in Big Battle. You get all the feel of a full wargame but with the elegant and historical DBX mechanics. We have long ago converted over our old Warhammer armies and often run battles with a table full of figures. A try to run some Big Battle DBA 3.0 (well really D3H2) games at every convention. Had a great afternoon of Big Battle at DragonCon and a great evening of Big Battle at Historicon this year. TomT |

I'm working my way up to having enough figures for BBDBA. |

My aim in painting other than filling in a couple of partial armies that were picked up on Ebay has been to build BBDBA armies. Being able to take disparate elements and make a useful block out of them makes some of the lists more viable. |

I've got the point where I prefer BBDBA to DBMM and FoG. It just seems a cleaner system. Few arguments about army composition, simple rules…great. |
