I'm still working with the playtest version of these, but am interested in the full version too. When firing from a tank vs. another tanks, is the +1 to the die roll only applied when one or the other (or both) are halted (seems that way, since I don't recall seeing a notation on the QRS)? Or, alternatively, does the firer get a +1 for being halted while firing, and also another +1 if the target is stopped as well (from what I've read, in the real world that made targets considerably easier to hit, so might make sense in the rules)? Also, am curious to hear how the air support rules work for helos, aircraft, and their integration into the combat sequence, as well as AA and SAM missile fire against them. Anyone had a chance to add in some helo gunships, or A-10s into the mix yet? Would love to read some more battle reports, when/if you get the time to share them. |

I've just downloaded this too :-) |

I think it's just +1 if either the firing element or target element have used Option 4, stationary fire. Note also that that applies to infantry as well as tanks. |

The +1 for halted applies to the firer and also to any enemy vehicle then shooting at it. There is no accumulation so its +1 to both sides if one is halted. The idea is that the firer has halted and is taking time to get a better shot but in doing so is making itself easier to hit. The rules have an emphasis on manoeurvre – I've played too many modern games where static defence is the best bet – so hanging around comes with risks. Without giving too much away. Helicopters form units as per ground units, but have their own action options. Those with ATGMs may choose to operate off-table. There's a bit of chopper action here: sabresquadron.com/AAR11.html Like artillery, aircraft have their won phase and are used by the Responding player thereby integrating AA into the unit's actions. There's allowance for the air superiority situation so don't expect support if playing Iraqis in 1991 for example. |

There's a forum for Sabresquadron too now, off the main site. The air superiority situation bit is neat, I'll be doing a bit of thinking and reading though on how to apply it over the course of a war, as capabilities deteriorate. |

Thanks for the quick replies, and info, everyone. I really appreciate it. Kenneth, that Battle Report you shared with us is a beauty. The perfect answer for "why consider gaming the modern Cold War in 15mm scale?", when you see it, in my opinion, since the miniatures, and terrain look stunning. Thank you for sharing it. |

Company level game or there abouts is exactly what I want. Play testing in 6mm and then i am looking at using these for some 1982 Lebanon action using my 15mm Israelis and Syrians |

Seconding Mako here Kenneth, that batrep has sold me in this game. |

That's the second batrep I have seen using 15mm… I had nitially assumed it was designed for 1/300, but I'm liking it in 15mm and now feel inspired to relook at my 15mm armies! |

Definitely inspirational! What size is the table overall? |

All mine have been on 6' x 4' except for a game at Wargames Association of Reading that was 2.5m x 2m. That latter one involved 2 Soviet companies plus a recce platoon attacking a West German Panzergrenadier company with a tank platoon attached. |

Hmmmm…. Definitely going toga be to give this a try…. |

Yep, lots of lovely West German kit in those other AARs vs. the communists. A shame we don't have M114s in 15mm, so the US Armored Cavalry can give it a go against the Soviets, or their Warsaw Pact allies, on the West German border. If only we knew someone who produces 15mm miniatures, and that might be interested in taking on this task, so he could sell more American vehicles and troops for the Cold War………… ;-) |

OK, I'll bite. This discussion has convinced me to spring for a set of the rules. I'm always looking for a "best" set of rules for my ultra-modern gaming, especially a set that incorporates land and air along with command/morale. Can't have accurate modern gaming without the three. Hope this works well for playin Next Korean Conflict. |

Yeah, darn you TMP and your links to cool AAR's! I had to order a copy of the rules as well. :) |
GeoffQRF | 24 Sep 2015 4:54 a.m. PST |
They actually have 15 battle reports here, in both 1/300 and 15mm scale: link |
